Discuss Strait-Jacket

(SPOILERS FOLLOW)

It's definitely entertaining, but completely out of nowhere and entirely absurd, how Lucy is all nervous and meek one second, then has just a sip or two of the mixed drink she just now fixed, turns around, and immediately she's already intoxicated (in more ways than one) and turned into a raging nymphomaniac with the hots for young Michael, all but pouncing and salivating on him right there in front of daughter Carol.

It's certainly fun, and Joan acts all that to the hilt, with absolute relish, though that part of the movie is, nonetheless, preposterous.

By the way, very creepy, later on, Mini Lucy: Lucy vs. Lucy!

This movie's ending would be much more effective and leave a stronger impression if that final couple or so minutes hadn't been tacked on of Lucy explaining everything to her brother. That feels lame.

The way Carol started pressuring her mother towards the end really build up some good tension, so the explanatory ending definitely took away its punch, as it feels like it takes it audience for dummies. That scene you mentioned, where she meets Michael, definitely was... Something! But I like how she admitted how the clothes and the hair does something wrong to her.

Solid film, it got better towards the end. Always love me some Ms. Crawford. :) I would agree with the Wiki page that says "Critics disliked the film but praised Crawford's performance, the general critical consensus being that she was better than the material. "
