How exactly is there a Terminator to kill John Carter. What kind of Time Travel rules are we dealing with here.
The film is a soft reboot; a way of telling the same story again, without it technically being 'the same story again.' Skynet was thwarted, but gave way to 'Legion' as the next antagonist. The terminator who killed John was sent by Skynet, but the terminator who was sent to kill the girl was sent by Legion. It's a joke of a story, for many reasons - quintessential deus ex machina and ham-fisted writing.

That's something I was also wondering. Why is there a terminator sent to kill John C. Reilly if Skynet's existence was already canceled and Legion was the next threat. Did somebody hold a grudge against the poor guy?
Also, while I'm here, I have to say that her mother Sarah Wayne Callies must be one of the dumbest Terminator killers I've ever seen. As far as I can remember in none of the movies was the Terminator ever stopped by small arms gunfire. So how does she prepare for Terminator encounters : with a shotgun and a pistol. Yeah, that should work out just fine.

To be fair, rocket rounds are expensive and difficult to come by. Lasers powerful enough to fry metal aren't hand-portable. And pulse rifles haven't been invented yet. What else would you suggest she carry?

I can see where you are coming from. However, I don't think it's so much a question of how she should've armed herself and more of a question should she be there in the first place when she has no real method of dealing with the threat. To be honest, she did have a singleshot LAW with her, but it was as useless as the rest of her weapons. So she did seem to have access to explosive armaments and she obviously did have a contact in the military.
Back to your original question - she actually has seen a method first hand she could use to at least contain the threat for a short while: liquid nitrogen. Liquid nitrogen is certainly more easy to get than explosive weapons. Hell, show up with a pick-up truck or a truck with a portable furnace and hire a couple of well fed american teamsters on your team. Either place the furnace where the poor SOB shows up or just freeze the guy and tell the teamsters to chuck him in the pot. Yeah, it's stupid, but less so than showing up to a terminator fight with a peashooter.
Also, wasn't Arnold supposed to be doing her favors "for John". I'm not sure sending her to her obvious death against an overwhelming threat would be doing her any favors. Or maybe John really hated her and in that case it really was for John.
The film makers scrapped Skynet for Legion so the topic question is made null and void. None of TDF has any bearing on previous continuity. Even poor John gets taken out at a beach resort. Oh well I hoped he enjoyed the vacation while it lasted. Da da.... da... da da.

THE CONNOR KILLER WAS SENT BACK IN TIME AT THE SAME TIME OR VERY SHORTLY AFTER THE T2 TERMINATORS.
