Yes, that's the plot of Terminator 7. A T-1000 goes back in time to stop most of the Terminator films from getting made.
Jame Cameron said "Terminator 7 is amazing." He also said the special edition Blu Ray 8K streaming Dolby 8 channel sound 3D limited signed autograph collectors version has the extended deleted scene when John Connor comes back to life as a cyborg hybrid.

They kind of did with this one. Anything past T2 was rendered wiped from cannon.
