I'm not a fan of either Coppola or Scorcese. I don't think their films are bad, just (mainly - semi-enjoyed Goodfellas and fully enjoyed Hugo) not for me. Not entirely sure why with Coppola, but I don't tend to like the sort of subject matter in a lot of Scorcese's work. Lots of people like both directors and that's fine.
I would much rather rewatch any of the MCU films than any of those by FFC or MS that I have watched, apart from the aforementioned Hugo. I do keep meaning to give Shutter Island a go, though. So, to me (and millions of others) the MCU films are better - or at least more enjoyable - than what FFC or MS put out.
That said, I don't think BP is the "best" Marvel film by a long way. I suspect Iger picked it so he can play the "racist" card against naysayers.

Why do you feel he has to blindly defend Marvel? Let's face it, Iron Man was good, but Iron Man 2 blew CHUNKS (except for the climax which was exciting..but too little too late to save it). Favreau is arguably the best filmmaker of the MCU bunch and he took the high road, as did Cumberbatch recently. James Gunn merely expressed "dissapointment" (he didn't feel a need to rip the classic filmmakers a new one).
Not sure about you, but everytime Goodfellas is on it HOOKS me, arguably the best "gangster" movie next to Godfather IMO.

They are like that really old grandpa at the dinner table that is racist as fuck. You know its because they were born and raised in a different time and its to late to change them since they arent going to be around much. So you just put up with it and ignore them for the most part, but you still respect them for fighting for our country and losing a nut in the war. At least thats how I see this shit show.
I can see how Scorsese and Coppola might dismiss MCU films as 'less than' other more 'traditional' films, but taking it out on the film makers and Disney and calling the films 'despicable' just dosent sit well with me. I enjoy all types of films and always will. Im also all about free speech, so they have their own right to an opinion, but they should also be ready for the push back that will be coming their way.

I don't think they want to make a "Scorcese" film any more than Mike Leigh wants to make a "Marvel" film, though.

Classics? Nah! I think their most memorable was the way they brought it all together. Maybe the first Avengers for accomplishing this and perhaps Avengers EndGame for breaking the Box Office WorldWide record.
