Обговорити Black Panther

It seems a little quick for it's release on DVD but I'm sure everyone knows that BP has made as much money as any movie could possibly make at this point. I mean how many times has an average fan like me watched it already??? grin

I'm so excited as this summer looks great with lot's of BP viewings in the comfort of my own home sweat_smile

May 15th for BP on DVD and Blu-Ray.

The potential audience that might want to still see BP is still very large. I know quite a few people in my neighborhood are curious but are waiting for BP to move to the Discounted Theater or 2nd run houses. Marvel/Disney isn't trying to run out the clock so will take advantage of the heightened interest and get media out there ASAP rather than build demand by holding back. Feels like another attempt to thwart pirated copies and bootlegs which are already flooding the Black Market (No pun intended) and the eager to get their hands on it Grey Market.

I remember when dvd releases would be 7 or so months after the end of the theater run.

And technology continues to be used by content providers and distributors to give consumers what they want sooner, quicker, faster and better. When you look at Box Office revenue and pick Gone With The Wind it has an Adjusted for Inflation ticket value of $1.8 Billion dollars because there was only one way to see that film, In Theaters. There was no home release. There was very limited competition and or piracy besides sneaking into theaters without buying a ticket.

Many movies made more on Home Release than in their theatrical release run. Studios realized another money river and immediately started fishing along with releasing older movies and finally direct to DVD and now direct streaming services bypassing a cinema release all together. Some streaming services even wait years for a home release.

Remember when a home release on VHS/Beta was delayed until after the Airlines got their release, 2nd Run theaters go their release, Broadcast got their release, Cable got their release and not in that order before a Home release was available? Consumers also realized that they didn't want to follow like sheep into the corals of the film industry. In essence consumers had no rights and no access that allowed them to affect the price of media and the requirements of their lifestyles. The film industry and content makes and providers wanted their stream of money to continue and to grow.

I like owning and controlling my access to entertainment but technology along with piracy continues to change the rules of availability for the consumer.

Makes perfect sense. The interest and popularity of BP is still very high so it would make sense to get the DVD's and Blu-rays out there now. I can only imagine how many pirated copies could be pushed out there if Disney doesn't flood that market quickly. Waiting a lot longer would have been risky. Better sooner than later.

I am still fresh off the theatre experience and I can't wait to continue watching at home. That was a smart business move.

From Scott Mendelson at Forbes:

"To the extent that the quick DVD/Blu release is motivated by anything other than natural theatrical decline, it’s partially because Disney has other fish to fry and Black Panther doesn’t really have any more concrete milestones left to conquer. Sure, I’m keeping track of how high it gets on the inflation-adjusted list (34th as of now and probably 30th place by the time it wraps up) or how high it moves up on the “leggiest $100 million+ opener” list (13th at the moment), but that’s me. Those aren’t things you can trumpet on the back of a DVD box. That Black Panther has made so much money so quickly (it’s still the second-fastest grossing movie ever, still pacing between Avatar and The Force Awakens) and that it’s arriving on DVD so quickly aren’t unrelated. That much supply has been met that much faster, so this isn’t a case like Titanic where it’s essentially earning $15 million-$20 million per weekend up until the fourth month of release. Jurassic World arrived on DVD four months after its theatrical release while the last three Star Wars films (and the super-leggy Wonder Woman) dropped on Blu just over three months after their respective theatrical release dates. This is a little bit fast, but it’s not so premature as to create undue suspicion. A mid-May release gives Black Panther time to cash in on Infinity War while not quite interfering with the theatrical debuts of Solo and Incredibles 2. This all goes into the “Disney has too many huge movies” scenario, although they probably didn’t expect Black Panther to still be pulling down $8 million in its eighth weekend. It’s a good problem to have, but it does require some juggling. Black Panther is coming to DVD a little early, but that doesn’t mean its theatrical race is complete."

There is a bit more Theatrical release dollars out there for BP but nothing that will be noteworthy as far as records to be broken.
