Could please suggest me English-language films whose dialogues involve a high level of cultural density? For instance cultural elements like organization names, social conventions, special days/events, proper names, names of places, words related to geography (names of the mountain etc)... Please name as many as you can. I am conducting a study on the transfer of English cultural elements into different languages in film translation.

Is that the sort of thing you mean?

No. What I mean is that the film must contain elements that are peculiar to the American or British culture. For instance, proper names of people that hold an historical importance in British or American culture, names of organizations, brands, institutions and so forth. The dialogues that I am looking for in a film must contain material which I can examine thoroughly when making analyzes about the transfer of those elements into other languages when translated in film translation.

Do TV shows count? If so Mad Men is very high on this.
In terms of movies, Forrest Gump has a lot of 20th century American cultural references.

Unfortunately the main focus of my research is filmic productions. Forrest Gump, I will keep that in mind. Thank you for your suggestion. Can you think of any other movie like the one you mentioned? I think you have understood what I was trying mean exactly when I said 'films with high cultural density'. So my main concern is that the film should contain rich materials in terms of cultural specific elements and references but at the same time it should not be explicitly about the 'culture' itself. The dialogues, lines, inserted texts on screen, original subtitles of that movie must contain "material relating to the cultural structure" of that country in question. Woody Allen films for example. His films cover a range of different themes but when his films are translated they may pose problems on the part of the translator because they contain Jewish, American culture references. That is the kind of movie I am looking for. I hope I made myself clear. I would be very glad if you could name other movies. Thank you.
