Discuss Black Panther

Imagine that!!! grin clap_tone3 clap_tone3 clap_tone3 fireworks

Black Panther's performance and the legs that it's shown has beaten every single expectation. Of course some may not have liked it (that's OK since not everyone has to like every movie) but boy! being #1 for 5 straight weekends hasn't happened since Avatar eight years ago.

Those who had waited for the "dropening" laughing to start must have been very, very disappointed because none of the new releases since BP have been able to knock The King of Wakanda off his throne crown NO FREAKING WAY!!! no_entry_sign Even though Lara Croft came close, it just wasn't strong enough.

Next record breaker will be overtaking The Avengers to become the top grossing superhero movie of all time in North America sweat_smile and that's being predicted to happen in days ( I can't wait grinning ) So far, BP has grossed $605.4 million domestic while The Avengers grossed $623 million domestic. The difference is razor thin and that will definitely be surpassed, no doubt about it grin

Black Panther's world wide gross now stands at $1.18 billion dollars with more to come. BP is still going strong and it will be interesting to see what it's final number will be at the end of it's run. Probably another record breaker champagne fireworks

Do you know the last film before Avatar and Black Panther to spend 5 weeks at number 1?

The Sixth Sense way back in 1999!!!

Yep. That's a long time ago. The sixth sense also starred Bruce Willis who was a very popular and huge star which also helped the BO ticket sales.

With BP, it's the first movie made solely for this superhero and most of the actors in it are fresh. That's why it is shocking for Hollywood to see the power of BP unleashed in this WAKANDA style force grin

Hollywood NEVER EVER expected BP to perform this well let alone generate this amount of money at the BO. It's staying power is also astonishing to a lot.

I for one am happy that BP has shown Hollywood that positive representation and great storytelling bears good fruit.

I don't think its going to make too much more. Last weekend only pulled in 26 million. Soon Theater will start pulling Black Panther to make room for other movies.

Only made $26 million and the theaters will be soon pulling it, what to make room for underperformers? Do you know the longer BP stays in theaters, the more theaters make? Why would they pull something that is still outpacing all films at the box office?

Plus, there's spring break, and kids are going to want to see it, if they haven't already, and see it again for the heck of it.

Furthermore, your usage of the word "soon" seems like you're too scared to say more, because you'll have to eat those words. Relatively speaking, BP won't be in theaters forever, but your claim that it won't be in theaters soon means nothing. Give us a date.

Im just comparing to Iron Man 3. That movie made a lot of money in its first 4 or 5 weeks. And then started to stagnant and losing screenings in theaters. Black Panther is pretty much following the same pattern. Not to mention that Iron Man 3 made a lot more oversea than Black Panther did.

I'm sorry. You're way off. It took Iron Man 3 --19 weeks -- to make a worldwide box office of $1.2 million. Black Panther made that in less than 5 weeks! In regards to overseas money, it just opened in China about a week or so ago. It has plenty of time to close the gap. All of this means nothing. It really just matters about the grand total, and there's no if-and-or-buts about it, BP is a phenomenon and still has some life in it.

Here is the box office for both films:

Iron Man 3

Total Lifetime Grosses

  • Domestic: $409,013,994 33.7%
  • + Foreign: $805,797,258 66.3%

BP's success isn't determined by International dollars and the WW take will be a 50/50 split between domestic.

BP will be in theaters when Avengers Infinity War arrives so just be prepared for a long domestic financial run.
