You don't say grin grin The $1 billion mark is well in sight for Black Panther!! So well deserved. If it opens big in China on Friday, then we'll be seeing that sooner than Sunday but definitely by Monday, Chadwick Boseman can consider himself one of the biggest super heroes of all time if not the biggest.

This is excellent for the brilliant director, the superb cast and producers of this movie. I have NEVER watched a movie more than twice in theatres before but Black Panther will take me to the theatres at least 8 times. I'm going for my 4th this weekend and will continue until it leaves the theatres in my area heart_eyes heart_eyes smile

Can't wait till Monday to talk about the billion dollar movie champagne

I would have preferred that BP hit the $1 Billion mark before releasing in China, Japan and Russia to calm the naysayers as to the popularity of the film. It does appear that BP will reach $1.2 Billion dollars worldwide which is phenomenal for an origin story for a character NOT that well known. No amount of marketing can exclusively drive that type of Box office without there being some substance there and BP has that substance.

That is not to say that all "Substances" are created equal.

Exactly. This movie already had a lot of naysayers predicting that it will tank or bomb or "dropen" wink wink as some have said on this board. The audience for this movie has been very diverse because no one can claim it's only been blacks watching this movie. This is the first major movie produced by a major studio that has been made of an almost 99% black actors and trust me, if this movie did not have any substance or wasn't that excellent, the box office for the second week of release would have been way less that what it was. It would never have made any where close to what it is tracking now and OMG, the criticism on this board would have been out of this world grinning Notice how it's been crickets since it became obvious that this movie was excelling at an alarming rate? smile smile

The movie was ripe with substance, almost all the characters were well built not just the main actor alone. The story was unique and fresh and was very original. The word of mouth was what actually propelled this movie because it had SUBSTANCE No amount of marketing could have sold this movie this well had it not been for the fact the movie was just plain excellent and very well done No ifs, ands or buts about it thumbsup_tone4 thumbsup_tone3 clap_tone3 clap_tone3

One substance is curiosity. It's new.

True, but if after watching the movie the first weekend of it's release out of curiosity, and fans were not that enamored by it, the drop would have been very significant for the 2nd weekend, but BP did very well throughout the first weekend of it's release and has continued to do well. Yes, the curiosity factor was there but the fact that the movie was great and there was substance to it, has kept the fans coming back for more, just like me grin grin

Well hoorah for the black community and everyone else. I didn’t really care for this movie though. The only two superheroes I favor are Superman and Batman.

Interesting comment and I don't mind saying, "completely unnecessary". There really isn't a need to single out the "Black Community". The Marvel fans enjoying the movie aren't all exclusively "Black" and the large audiences across the world aren't exclusively "Black". Wouldn't you be considered as being "Everyone Else" or are you an alien? grinning

Where is naysayer, Hank?

WTF does race have to do with any of this? How does BP prop up the black community? Did Superman and the Batman support the white and alien communities?

Wait are you kidding? The whole marketing was about BP being black! Not to mention a bunch of media outlets calling it the first 'black superhero film'..which is bullshit. From all the marketing, all the reviews, and all the press, this is definitely a BLACK film first and a Marvel film second. Which is sad, it should stand on its own as a capefilm/Marvel film first and not judged so heavily on its 'diversity.'

I think there were some America First/DC folks who got their panties in a bunch over this film. I believe RT cock blocked them from trying to torpedo the film with negative reviews. Race came out of the simple minds of the people who didn't even see the film.

Not to mention a bunch of media outlets calling it the first 'black superhero film'..which is ********.

Yeah, I believe Blade was the first which was decades ago, and it didn't receive this kind of vitriol.

No, they enticed the audience with black power and a film finally showing strong African characters. Everything else was secondary. I dont know how you cant see that. Its blatantly obvious. And guess what, thats ok, but people shouldnt try to say that the cinematography or action or its a Marvel film or the acting was the main draw here. Because it wasnt. Not to mention the first negative reviews that came out, the critics were called racist...because they didnt like the film. It was the exact same thing with Star Wars and Ghostbusters 2016. Except remove the word racist and add sexist. Identity politics at its best. Dont like a certain film and you are a monster! I think the trolls you are thinking of was the DC/Disney haters that started that facebook group. Which will always happen, trolls will always try to screw with sites that use algorithms. And Blade is and will always be the best 'black' superhero film! And I think the first black superhero movie was The Meteor Man.

Wow with all that money. I wonder how big the Scrooge Mcduck pools are for all the rich White movie executive profiting from this movie.

It might very well happen, as what has already happened within the pages of the BP comic, Wakanda is destroyed because of the loss of Vibranium. sob
