I had high expectations for this movie. That might have worked against my final opinion. Liked it but did not love it.

The Good:

  • The acting was very good (less so with Jordan) especially Boseman
  • T'Challa is a good king
  • The base story was cool (expat teams up with enemy of the state with intention of using him for coup)
  • Okoye and the royal guard all badass (and the only good fights)
  • Ape Men fearsome and super cool
  • Klaue was a good villain
  • Korea segment very well done (other than BP fight* see below)
  • Killmonger astral journey was good
  • Wakanda and all of its tech inspired and well done (except robe shields)
  • Bond-like gadget upgrade routine
  • No individual moment of stupidity**
  • Bucky! Great way to portend his arm

The Bad:

  • *Most all of the Black Panther fights sucked. A big step backward in movie fight quality
  • Kill Monger MIT alumni, Navy Seal, and still talks like that? Hard to reconcile the character against his credentials
  • **No individual moment of "WOW super awesome!"
  • T'Challa's astral journey was yawnsville
  • T'Challa's inauguration ceremony was cringy, dance-cliff, 80's television quality (except Ape Men part)
  • T'Challa "freezes" when he sees Nakia. He's not an 18 year old
  • Okoye always correcting the King
  • No reason for T'Challa to accept Killmonger's challenge. Have to go through whole "he shall lose his power..." rigamarole again
  • Killmonger wanting to die instead of incarceration made no sense if their fight was a legal challenge
  • W'Kabi is isolationist but ends up joining Killmonger's cause ???
  • Robe shields
  • Fly these weapons to some black people
  • Wakanda has poor people
  • Adding damage absorption to Black Panther's power set is too similar to Cpt Marvel's energy absorption. Too much
  • The dispersal of that absorbed damage looks just like Wonder Woman's bracelet pulse (another tacked-on power for no good reason)
  • "My ancestors jumped off the ships ..." Um, you are Wakandan. Your mother's side maybe? Well she had to stay on the ship to procreate
  • Forrest Whitaker (slightly less irritating than usual ... slightly)
  • Okoye and especially Shuri knew that the Panther suit has damage absorption but they still attack Killmonger charging him up
  • "Left here!" turns right (tiny editing nitpick)

I didn't hate it but I rank it around the middle of Marvel's stuff. It was sorta mediocre to me. 6/10

I'm pretty anti-Marvel but overall I liked this movie. It was far from great, but I still think it was the best MCU film I've seen.

I didn't mind the Rhinos but it is a valid point. He blows a horn and they all suit up and come charging into a battle in which they know which Wakandans to attack.

Didn't they have riders ?

Apart from that, I find it a bit paradoxical that an advanced society that has flying saucers, magnetic monorails and handheld energy spears powerful enough to stop a tank, would also use live stock in their cavalry... that they have cavalry...

Dont forget the ending at the UN which seemed exactly like the Iron Man ending. I wasn't thrilled by the film. The women were fierce... but not much more than fierce. I really wanted to see some fleshed out secondary characters. I would rate the last Thor and Wonder Woman much higher in comparison to Super Hero movies. As a regular movie, it was only good.

Wonder woman was garbage except for the soundtrack. WW is overrated by sheep just glad that any woman (regardless of talent or onscreen charisma) "led" a movie after a master class from the charismatic Chris Pine.

Yeah whatever dude. Lame

No you're lame. As in if I ever heard anyone talk that way in public I'd laugh and walk away. So why am I responding to You? Don't know. I'll block going forward. Life is too short. Good luck trying to get a rise out of folks online. Sad really

I don't get your last statement. Are you saying that you're a virgin to not piss off? Not that I have anything against virgins, you do you, all respect.

50 and dumb. You'd do well not to stick your nose in other people's online discussions. Stevie boy has decided to block me which has made me cry. All you need to do is butt out.

Yeah...wow...ok.

just ignore the clown (really, press the button). It'll make your Sunday nicer.

Thanks for the bumps, guys. I'll take the banter traffic, tears, ad hominem, and all!

I agree that WW was a little overrated but I still really enjoyed it. The soundtrack was, indeed, among its chief strengths (and Pine was solid, aye). But I felt that the movie was very well done except for the end fight and giving WW her "bracers pulse." It was another case of adding a power to an established character that overshadows existing power set abilities they traditionally have. Much like giving Black Panther damage absorption. None of Black Panther's other powers are nearly as powerful as that. This added power visually manifested itself as an area of effect energy pulse and figured prominently in the hero's success just like WW. What's with that trend? It's like if they gave Spiderman the ability to fly or Hawkeye a big energy blast.

Did they learn nothing from the outrage from the end of Superman 2 when he suddenly had insignia trap power? Slightly different fundamentally but in the same realm of insouciance of the writers. The dreaded "it's just a comic book so who cares" disease.
