I liked IMDB for swift responses after a tv show has aired. Wish the TV portion of this site was more active. Also no matter how old a movie was i could still find topics for it.

I think people just need to start threads on the TV show boards and tell people to post. I've seen it work that way.

IMDb is gone due to Amazon no longer wishing to invest in it, not that they ever bothered to properly invest in it in the first place - when was the last time someone encountered a mod or needed help with their account, due to forgetting a password, but neglected to update the registered email? When Amazon invests in something it's pretty noticeable, unlike the antiquated IMDb fora. Amazon probably acquired IMDb to promote movie sales and generate ad revenue , but negative reviews of recent films, along with possibility of declining membership and realization that the fora were unprofitable, is what prompted the shutdown - blaming trolls the claim of IMDb being "no longer positive" is nonsense.

It was no longer a place for respectful discussion about movies anymore. I was very happy they decided to close it down because actually, it wasn't really the place to get objective views about movies anymore so why waste dollars? It was a good move to shut the whole thing down

"Had become" suggests there was a golden age, but I don't buy that blinkered view, as I'd been following IMDb since 1999/2000, though I avoided the political and unrelated fora - only there for movies. Those internationals were just as likely to spew hateful rhetoric as anyone stateside. Since I wasn't looking that much, it was rare to come across the shit-storms. What I miss is being able to ask about old and obscure movies and TV shows and eventually getting an answer months to even a year later and I'm old enough to sift through the BS to find an objective view about media, unlike now with Google searches resulting in shills claiming innovations and firsts for every production featuring some ethnicity and/or gender, yet hardly commenting on the content.

@Movie Queen41: One thing I could never quite figure out about IMDB was whenever there was a Marvel movie or a DC movie, fanboys (or girls) would say the nastiest things about which one of the opposition's movies were going to tank. It was horrible!
And as for Discovery, I can't understand why so many people (mainly Men) are so upset that an African-American woman is the star of the show! Is it because she's not playing a Captain? Avery Brooks didn't get hassled when he played the lead on DS9. And what's the big deal about Michelle Yeoh playing a Captain? I would imagine there would be female Starship Captains in that time period.

If you cannot understand, then how about looking at it from another perspective? Nobody cares that a black woman is the star of the show, but they do notice when it's a subpar actress playing an awful character who's committing the sin of being unmemorable, in contrast with James Callis' performance as a similarly egotistical and abrasive Baltar in the BG reboot - a character one loves to hate, albeit in small doses. It doesn't help that the almost awful writing is failing to make her sympathetic, yet we're meant to support her decisions at playing a captain, while not being a captain, also trying to shoe horn issues in an ham-handed manner, making Enterprise's Vulcan mind meld STD appear creative in comparison.
Avery Brooks played Benjamin Sisko as an anti-Picard, complete with flaws, over-acting at times, almost as much as Shatner as Kirk, yet remaining a likeable and relatable person in tense situations, so no one was bothered by his performance.

What is the big deal about Michelle Yeoh playing a captain? I don't recall any issues with her playing a captain and no different than Kate Mulgrew in the same role. Scenes with Michelle Yeoh and Sonequa Martin-Green demonstrates why one is better suited in a supporting role, albeit in small doses. Maybe if the writing was better and the writers showed us why Burnham deserves to be in a position of authority and/or introduced a rapport with a foil, like Spock and McCoy or Odo and Quark, she'd be a somewhat interesting character.

I only miss IMDB because you could find interesting discussions for any movie, no matter how old it was. I mostly avoided the big blockbusters.
That site is really weird. While the first link to The Walking dead board shows a lot of activity, the rest of the boards seem to be pretty much dead.

It's crazy. This site is beautiful but the activity is lacking in most spots. I do see it slowly growing.

I agree..the oldest most obscure movies had posts ..even silient movies.
