In Dark World, almost half of the chuckles were because the situations were absurd. I don't think that was their intention? I'm really not a fan of superhero movies, I did like the first 2 original Hellboy movies, the first 2 Blade movies (although the third one is pretty bad, Reynolds is hilarious), & Aquaman (because of Momoa). But I got a deal on Disney+ (2.99 a month), so I figured I would watch a bunch of movies I wouldn't normally see & also see a few that I haven't had an opportunity to see in the past. I was just a bit disappointed considering all the hype about all of the Marvel movies.

In fairness, with The Dark World you did pick the absolute worst by a mighty, mighty margin. Not a good example of Marvel.

I did see Suicide Squad (that's Marvel right?). But I only watched it because of Idris Elba. It was alright but a bit on the goofy side too.

The Kiwi director is a very accomplished comedic director before he chose the easy life of getting paid to help churn out the Marvel production line. So even if the film isn't listed as a comedy I think someone of his background, directing a genre well known for not taxing the mind, has the potential to be a good match. I'm not sure he has ever worked on something that is deadly serious, or even close to it.

I don't think I've seen Dark World but Ragnarok is probably one of my favourites of the Marvels.

Like a fun, better version of Flash Gordon.

Yeah, that's exactly how I'd describe it. But if you're not really following the MCU films and aren't familiar with the characters then the humour would probably go over your head.

I'd say the first two are kind of like Flash Gordon too. But an extra tacky Flash Gordon that's trying to be grandiose, mythical and dramatic. Whereas Ragnarok actually embraces it's Flash Gordon side. Waititi knows what to do with it.

Marvel movies all tend to be on the comedyish side. But especially the Thor films. If you want serious the closest you'll get is probably the Captain America films.

Thor 2 was directed by an American director not a Kiwi perhaps you should be taxing your own mind to at least know which movie you're talking about before commenting about a lack of brainpower. You saw the name Thor without thinking... which.

The only other movie of his I've seen was, 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople'. I liked it very much.

You know, that's what I was thinking yesterday: Flash Gordon! Pure cheese. Also, I know who most of the characters are, I just didn't follow the Marvel movies.

But did Thor go into space & did they have bazookas, spaceships, etc. in the comics?

If the OP was bamboozled by my sensational deviation from the topic at hand by responding to the precise topic of the thread in the thread within which it is contained (having been drawn to the reference to slapstick) then I can only apologise. But I anticipate they will be mentally developed enough to join the dots.
