Discuss Thor: Ragnarok

Now, I want to prefix my following statements by saying that I did enjoy this film. It was fun and a good popcorn movie.

So, what's the problem?

Well, that guy up there onscreen wasn't Thor. He was some whimpering crybaby (once during the Willy Wonka sequence, again when he was getting his hair cut). Why did the producers change his character so much from the first two films? Yes, I understand there was a desire to make the film more fun and less dark and to canter to Chris's comedic skills. But geesh, Thor is a god. Stop crying and whining.

The Battlestar Galactica twist at the end was unusual. And they only rescued maybe a few hundred poor people? What happened to the rest of the population? This was the grand civilization that was protecting and watching over so many worlds? Hm. Obviously, there was a need to scale things down to keep the events plausible within the scope of the film.

Spiderman is a hoot. I think they did a good job with him in Homecoming. He's like in the comics. I don't know about Thor comics, but the ones I've read him in from the 70s, he's always a bit moody. Always. Maybe he's changed since that time? Anyway, I like all the Thor movies, I don't know why the first two get ripped on a lot. For that matter...I also liked the Hulk film from a few years back. What was so wrong with it that it got trashed? I thought it was a lot more coherent than Ang Lee's mess.

Mythological characters change all the time be it in times past and comic books now, nowadays.

I agree with your points, except that I didn't enjoy this. Every Marvel character has this sense of humour now, and this film tried to make everyone have their comedy moments too. I can't think of character who didn't try to be funny.

And yes, it was noticeable that Asgard only had a population of a few hundred people. If they scaled the population they could have also scaled down the size of Asgard!

But the main cause of complaint for me (dodgy CGi aside) is how Loki has basically turned into a comedy sidekick. Totally devalues his role as the main bad guy in the first Avengers.

The problem for me is that they all have the same sense of humour, like it was written in one singular voice. It's so lazy to just have them all be sort of quippy and then differentiate them only from their powers and appearance.

This movie wasn't bad but it had this sort of wannabe scrappy attitude about it, some pretty bad CGI and cheesy fifth element knock off aesthetics. They marketed this as sort of a throwback 80s like, "krull" style movie and it definitely was not that
