Shocked to come here and see the negative comments. I think it was a fun ride and showed some good character arcs. The comedy was still there and soundtrack was good.

It was a laugh but it was also a bit of a mess.

Most of the complaints for this movies seem come down to. OMG someone told a Joke. Otherwise i like it better than this first. Especially in terms of character development. Its like people who bitch about the Ewoks in Return of the Jedi. The Movie isn't about the F##king Ewoks. Its about a Son trying save his Father. GOTG 2 is about alot more than Just Telling Jokes.

Unfortunately a lot of forum posters on movie sites seem to like being negative about everything.

Saw it a while ago now so my memory is a little hazy, but from what I remember there was a lot of good jokes. But those jokes didn't feel natural. It was often very funny but those jokes felt contrived, like they required the characters to say and do things that didn't really fit their nature. And those same jokes were milked for all they were worth.
Oh, yeah. There's definitely some good elements to the film. And the David Hasslehoff bit was great. It's not a bad film. But there were disappointments there.
For me a big one was the action. There was no action in the film at all. And when I say action, I mean proper action sequences. Not CGI, stop and start that never gets the pulse racing and never creates any sense of danger.
An example of a proper action sequence would be the prison escape in the first film. This was a great sequence. It was physical action which had momentum and was peppered with jokes. It gave the film the feel of Indiana Jones in space. Which was absolutely perfect. I didn't get that feel with the second film.
But I don't think many people are saying it's a bad film. I'd give it a fair 3 out of 5. I was amused by it.

Well, some of the jokes felt right but your criticism about that is very much on point. When Drax was telling Mantis how ugly she was (because he obviously liked her), it seemed natural.

This was actually the one bit that stuck in my mind. For me I found it very unnatural. I did find it very, very funny, I was pissing myself with laughter but at the same time I didn't like the way the film stopped for five minutes for him to continually insult her.
I'm no expert on the comics. I've never read one. But from the first film Drax seemed to have a very ignorant and naive personality. Which was where the humour came from. He'd kind of say one dismissive, thoughtless comment and then carry on about his business like it was nothing. The film would just carry on.
So I think Drax would insult her once then we'd carry on with the film. He might do it several times throughout the film but not for ages, all in one go.
I'd also add that Drax's comments always have good intentions behind them. He's not intentionally cruel. Which is also why it's funny. "This green whore is my friend!" He doesn't realise why that's offensive. He thinks he's bonding.
It felt like the film was taking the humour from the first and trying to kick it up to 15. And as a result the film just didn't feel cohesive. And I feel this is what happens with a lot of sequels. They take humour or popular character's traits from the first installment and maximize them to the extent that they no longer feel organic.
But that's just the way I felt about it.
I think that Vol 2 suffers from typical sequel issues.

Fair enough. That was actually well-argued. I didn't bother to compare the second film to the first one like you did, plus I've only seen Vol. 2 one time.

I've only seen it once too. But Drax is my fave character. Which is probably why I noticed so much. Drax is awesome. And Bautista is great in the role.

This film is an lowbrow abomination for manchildren, my GF left as soon as they started discussing the size of their turds. I stayed just to laugh at it, and it actually got worse.
This achieved to be more lowbrow and idiotic than Batman & Robin which was the title holder so far. No wonder, this comes from the sick mind who just got fired for countless child rape & misogynistic tweets.

The reason why I feel I need to see Vol. 2 a second time is that I'm considering sticking to my original opinion on Drax. I don't think the film really stopped for 5 whole minutes, and it could be that Drax is so smitten with Mantis that he actually felt like, well, insulting her for all that time. Hell, the difference between Drax's comments in the first film and in the second film could maybe be considered to be a form of character development, I think. Just sayin'.

It was fine, but I have no need to watch it a second time. Much of the humor, especially for Drax, felt forced. It didn't feel as fresh or as natural as the first movie. I like the characters and would prefer that the movie spent much more time on their interpersonal dynamics than on elaborate CG action sequences. But that's just me.
And I agree that Bautista is awesome, if only because he's willing to speak his mind in real life*. That's a damn rare quality in Hollywood.
*as opposed to celebrities that spout left-wing rants knowing they're speaking to like-minded co-workers and bosses in Hollywood. It takes a helluva lot more moxie to say unpopular things when your job is on the line.

Maybe, maybe. There's no right or wrong. But even so, I think that kind of indulgence messes with the momentum and flow of the film. I think the same effect could have been achieved by having those insults peppered throughout the film. Little asides rather than extended focus.

Frankly i think Nygma has a point. Many times people look at one little thing to complain about. Especially when that movie is about a lot more than that little bitty thing there complaining about. Sure This movie has a lot of silly jokes and not all them a good jokes. But it also about two sisters who come to terms with there abusive childhoods and a man finding out that his real father wasn't the one he was looking for. And personally Return of the Jedi is my favorite Star Wars movies. And i don't give a sh!t that the movie features f###ing Teddy Bears.
