Discuss Passengers

It's said multiple times on the movie, that the ship and specially the pods never fail. To a point that even the AIs are unable to deal with the fact that a pod failed. It's even said that the ship is meteor proof.

IRL such thing would never be done. Any computing system fails eventually. When a system requires highest reliability, redundancy and failsafe measures are used.

It'd never be accepted to make interstellar travels using hibernating pods that can't put somebody in hibernation by themselves. They'd create a lot of sefety measures for the case of a passenger waking up alone. Most certainly some of the crew would be waken up to handle it, and of course they'd all get back to hibernation.

The worse of all. By the end of the movie, they find out some hardware required replacement and then all of a sudden he says that all parts have replacements. So the ship wasn't designed at all to never fail. And having replacements is useless, if no crew is awake to replace it.

Yeah, lots of holes there. There's also no good reason for the crew's area to be locked off that way, if nobody was supposed to wake up along the way.

And why was the food service etc, even allowed to operate partway through the trip? No reason for that either. Except Because Plot/Because Drama, of course: otherwise, Jim and Aurora starve to death.

Good point. The ship would need food for the passengers to eat on the last 4 months when they're awake. If somebody wakes up and eats all the food for decades, then this somebody still dies of starvation before age, and when passengers wake up they also die because all food is gone.

Naw, Jim waking up wasn't deliberate, it was a malfunction. If the computer needed to wake up someone deliberately, it would have woken up someone like the Deck Engineer with access to important areas of the ship, and it would have done so in a way that he wouldn't be dead in a couple days.

Jim waking was a malfunction, only the girl was deliberate and still by hacking her pod.

It's rly dumby how the company points out so much that pods never fail and still on a single trip 2 pods do and 1 of them lead the person to death.

Yes, and, if they were so sure the pods would never malfunction, why were the "Crew" pods so heavily protected?

Although that just didn't make sense, period. It was only Because Plot/Because Drama.
