Here's my list of notable scenes in the movie that are essential for the plot.

• Jim decides not to space himself but instead discovers Aurora out the 5000 other passengers. If he had offed himself, everyone would be dead because Gus couldn't fix the reactor by himself.

• Jim discovers that the pods can't put him back to sleep and he's stuck. He lacks command access to get further help.

• Jim does a poor job of covering up what he did to Aurora. I think this means he intended to tell her the truth and felt guilty about waking her.

• Aurora interviews Jim and first realizes he is a noble man with ambitions. I base this on the look she gives him after he says "can't slogans be true?"

• Aurora admits to Jim that she could tell she would be friends with the midwife just by looking at her.

• Aurora discovers the Chrysler Building model that Jim made her. This communicates to her that he wants to read the stories she writes and build her anything she wants (including planting a tree).

• Jim tells Aurora that he likes to hear stories about her life even though she doesn't think she has any adventurous stores to tell.

• Aurora thanks Jim for taking her outside so she can have adventures. Is there enough adventures on the ship to write about or will it become too mundane?

• Jim tells Aurora that she "kills him" and Aurora can't explain what's wrong while in bed with Jim. She then starts to write about their relationship and he reads it all.

• Aurora discovers the truth and is envious of Arthur because he has a purpose on the ship but she doesn't (other than being a companion to Jim).

• Aurora decides not to kill Jim with a crowbar. Good choice because he's the only one who can fix the reactor.

• Aurora laments about the life she lost on Earth that she'll never be able to return to.

• Gus finds out about what Jim did and compares him to a drowning man but judges him with one word, damn...

• While Gus was analyzing the failures, Aurora glances at Jim. She realizes then that it could have been her or anyone else who was awoken on day 1 and now the ship is "sinking" whether she's asleep or not.

• Aurora admits to Jim that she can't live on the ship without him. If he didn't wake her up (or any else for that matter), then he couldn't vent the reactor while holding the door.

• In a twist of fate, Aurora wakes up Jim in the Autodoc using Gus' command code.

• Aurora decides to stay with Jim, probably because she realizes that leaving Jim alone is a fate worse than death and probably because she has anxiety about hibernation after watching Gus die in front of her.
