I really loved this one. I understand it would be a turnoff for people because it’s done in French (Canadian) so if you are one of the many who don’t have patience for subtitles (like I do) you will unfortunately skip over this one. I gave it a chance and ended up loving it for the dysfunctional family dynamic. All the actors were great - especially the kid. Very charismatic. If you liked the historical fiction mini series Versailles, you will recognize the neighbour who has a big role in this film. I have watched it twice and loved it just as much the second time. This is an Exavier Dolan film and he is a great young actor/director/producer. He will definitely be a household name in 5-10 more years. He already is in Canada.

I did like the approach to the main three characters, and it is worth watching for those performances. I also like that the director painted the picture of a complex relationship rather than playing the victimhood card. All three characters were fairly rounded humans, which is surprisingly rare these days.
But I think there was some questionable direction. The opening text is a little confusing and I had to actually rewind the last scene to rewatch a semi-blurred shot that lasted less than two seconds and was fundamental to understanding the actions of one of the protagonists. Apparently understanding of the last scene may also depend on knowing the name of the song on the closing credits. Not cool!
