Discuss Ex Machina

I really really hate this guy. There aren't too many films I've seen where my main reaction after is being seriously angry at a character like this. I don't know why but it just hits some kind of nerve with me that someone fairly smart would reduce himself to such an idiot because of this pathetic naive idea he has that this robot loves him. Nooo don't u hurt my robot girlfrieeend!

Way to ruin the world possibly because you're so SELFISH that you'd jeopardize the entire human race because you want love from a robot.

I mean remember, his plan was to run away with the AI. The only difference in outcome was that she did get away and he probably ended up dying alone in a giant hi-tech man cave.

He so got what he deserved. The sad thing is both Nathan and human civilization had to pay the price as well.

He was a bad person. I'm sure on a level most ppl saw him as the good guy and Nathan as this crazy scientist to watch out for. And yeah Nathan was obviously flawed. He set Caleb up and used him but unlike ginger he actually came clean about all that stuff in time. Caleb lied to him and conspired against him, period. He was exposed.

And in the end why did he decide to take the final step to fuck Nathan over?

Let's see...

Because the builder of the robot planned to shut her off to work on a better model. Wow, what a monster.

DON'T U DARE SHUT HER OFF, SHE'S SPECIAL, DUDE! We love eachothuuur!

Unfortunately, it may be unrealistic that a guy into AI would be so stupid as to freak out over a simple plan to work on another AI robot and act upon it, but the general character he represents does exist. The kind of person who's sure of his or her own moral high ground based on a short sighted self-image that is like... "I feel pity for this animal/robot/person... I must be a great person". But when you review the whole situation, it may really be you that is the asshole.

You took notice of her appearance, right?

Haha. She wasn't all that.

I think he's the perfect portrayal of a computer nerd, technically brilliant but socially and emotionally stunted, easily manipulated by a hot chick who appeals to his scientific arrogance. Didn't you ever see Weird Science? Caleb even bears a physical resemblance to Anthony Michael Hall. Beyond that, Nathan spells it out: Caleb was chosen specifically for his predictable nature.
