I've never been a big fan of X-Men comics so I looked up X-23 to see if she had a super hero name. Apparently, at one point, they call her The New Wolverine but other than that she is just X-23.
Going by the portrayal in this movie, I think Wildcat would be a much better name. (And yes I know there is a DC character with that name)

Considering wolverines are more cuddly than deadly she may as well be called Badger or Tasmanian Devil. I think the guy who created the character thought wolverines were like big cats or something.

[SPOILERS] Throughout the entire X-23 original comic book series she is only referred to as X-23 because throughout the series she is an experiment living in a lab. Having a name would reinforce the idea that she is something other than a lab-created assassin for hire. Her creators didn't want her to be anything else.
It's only in the last book after X-23 kills her mother figure accidentally before escaping the facility that the mother figure gives her an official name, Laura.
Ofcourse, the backstory in Logan is way different from in the books. But, the idea that she has always been an experiment since birth still exists, so the name X-23 is still relevant.

You take that back, you monster! My Fluftytuft wouldn't hurt a fly when she's well fed and sleepy!

I thought she was a cute little girl, and a decent character. The first time I watched the film, I was annoyed by her though. I had to watch a second time to understand things fully.
