I mean there is a guy who was a war hero and later runs a pet shop and he gets recruited into clandestine action. This almost asks to sound like bargain basement Bond. There was no sequel to this and its no loss but still fun to watch a Bond ripoff as Bond only has so many adventures of his own.

I will have to look out for it. A few other Bond type secret agent films made to cash in on Bond. Was this straight or a spoof?Casino Royale was a comedy too. Wonder what Bond film was made around that time.

It was serious enough The Liquidator with a little humor. Production values we're not as high. Rod Taylor however was a strong actor, Jill St. John was good and comely in it and of course she would later do Diamonds are Forever and be forgotten for being in this BBB. Shirley Bassey, who sang Goldfinger, sang the theme song to this I believe.

This was a 'straight' thiller. The producer also wanted a trilogy. Here is part of the Wiki article:

This sounds that it is worth a look, especially since it is a straight thriller. This brought to mind the parody Dean Martin/Matt Helm and the James Coburn/Derek Flint series films. Anyways thanks for the mention of this title

If you are looking for further non Bond Bonds I'd recommend the OSS 117 films
Definitely in the spoof camp though.
