I just finished watching this movie. I hate making my first post here at tmdb a negative one ( yes, I'm but one of the refugees in the mass exodus from IMDb who stupidly shut down their boards today), but wow...I had trouble staying awake during The Legend of Tarzan! I'm really surprised about that because it was a great cast and when I saw the budget for this movie I really thought I was in for an awesome cinematic treat tonight. Sadly, no.
So apparently the budget was $180,000,000 (180 MILLION!!!)!!! What was that spent on??? I admit the gorillas generally looked realistic to me for the most part but there were other parts in this movie where to my admittedly amateur eye the CGI effects looked like 1st generation renders (eg. the stampede scene for one, IMHO...or some of the shots of Tarzan and friends swinging on the vines, etc.).
I'm really not trying to be negative here and I honestly am very curious...what part(s) of this movie was so expensive???

I kind of agree with you. I've only made it half-way through the movie and can barely keep my eyes open. What the hell happened? I wanted to like it...but in the end...it just wasn't all that great.

well, I cheated and had this on on my HBO Go app while working (shhh...don't tell my boss..lol). I found it to be entertaining enough, but agree with the CGI looking a little "first generation" and the swinging parts were a little too "cartoon" to take seriously. Overall, I LIKED the movie, but didn't LOVE it.

The money certainly did not go on the CGI, script and the lead actor.

They had to raise an ape-man from birth. Raising kids is expensive enough. To push them out into the jungle like that, and make sure the gorillas don't rip them apart; then teach them to speak English and act like regular people.
The costs add up, is all I'm sayin'.
