Discuss Holiday Affair

In this appealing and entertaining holiday treat, especially enjoyable is Janet Leigh's and little Gordon Gebert's mother-child characters and their relationship dynamic and interaction; they're thoroughly charming and believable, and a real pleasure, together. Delightful Gebert was a natural, very convincing child actor.

Janet Leigh certainly is gorgeous in this, and gives a wonderful performance as Connie Ennis. At all times, regardless of whom she is interacting with or reacting to, you totally "buy" it; Leigh never, ever comes across as acting.

A part of the movie I especially love is when Timmy (Gebert) goes to Crowley's Dept. Store and has his interactions with Mr. Crowley's sweet, caring, very maternal secretary, Emily (Helen Brown). That part is beautifully memorable.

The only problem I have with this film is that I don't find it very believable that young war widow / single mom Connie would actually choose rolling stone, virtually broke Steve (Robert Mitchum) to go off - Timmy, of course, in tow - and spend her life with. It should be kept in mind that the story begins on (I'm pretty sure) Dec. 23rd, then eventually concludes on New Year's Eve, thus that Connie makes her choice, and acts on it, in that very short span of time - just eight days.
