The details of the 'perfect robbery' in Kubrick's riveting film are fascinating, the hopping in time and place from one player to another quite audacious for the time. Discounting the earlier Killer's Kiss, which comes to life only in its final moments, Kubrick hit the ground running with this splendid film. The ending, in which everything falls apart due to simple negligence (lesson: always ensure you properly fasten your suitcase!) is a stunner.

Just about the best heist film ever! It mops the floor with Heat or Reservoir Dogs or Ocean’s 11, or Cercle Rouge, which are all good films in their own right.

I haven't seen this one in such a long time, but I recall it being gripping to watch. I was entertained by one hood's comment in it about how a woman's face would get slapped into hamburger meat, something like that. I remember Quentin Tarantino being taken with the line, too, as well as by the film as a whole. He might've used non-linear storytelling in the aforementioned Reservoir Dogs because of this film. He also has a shot in Reservoir Dogs of the crooks laid out on a floor that seems to homage/borrow from The Killing - it's toward the end (of QT's film).

Yes, that line was directed towards the femme fatale. And yes QT was clearly influenced by The Killing.
Lots in common. Both films are early solid low-budget efforts by famous directors. Great dialogue and usage of music in both. Non-linear story-telling about a heist gone wrong. One BIG difference - the cinematography in The Killing is jaw-droppingly good. Reservoir Dogs really pales in comparison.

Ah yes, Marie Windsor... I do seem to recall a tough-talking woman in the film. That must've been her.
I must rewatch this film.
