An odd film. Some great acting and a tale well told. But some parts were so off kilter and Macy cheats the audience at times (e.g. showing a well attended, normal wake). It was a bold move to try and have us empathise with a complete knob; whose highlights include:

• repeatedly exposing himself infront of diners (including kids)
• telling his kid to avoid class to come out drinking instead
• sailing a boat with no control of the rudder, headlong into other peaceful sailors, endangering the lives of all
• the magnificently awkward climax

Yet the lead actor pulls it off, and both he and Macy deserve credit for that at least. This could so easily have been an unmitigated trainwreck of a film.
