Ok, here is my question: why does he suddenly kill the family? He seems cool with getting on their good side and all, then suddenly snaps a 180 and kills them. I never got that, and that is all that is keeping me from loving the film!

But why? Normally I don't care about motive, but it just sorta comes outta left field. Did I miss something?

Does it matter? Speak your mind, dude.

He was just using the family as cover from the government. Think of it as camouflage. Once he was done using them he would have killed them anyway so they couldnt identify him. Him helping the family was actually helping himself. He was just a sociopath/psychopath that got found out by the military and had to be put down as quickly and as quietly as possible. The family was just a casualtie of 'war' for him. At least thats my take on it. I did enjoy the film, especially the end shoot out.

Thanks for the replies! I am a supporter of veterans and know several, so it partially saddens me to see them portrayed this way (as nuts), but it does happen. I need to give the movie another watch, I think. I really liked it except for the sudden 180 on the family, which bugged me simply because I didn't get it.

You should. And I dont think the filmmakers meant anything by having him be a veteran. They arent trying to say all veterans are fucked up or anything like that. No hidden SJW message here. I enjoyed it so much that I watched it online and than went and bought the bluray. My wife on the other hand...not so much. grin

No, I get that. I just can't figure out why the 180! He seemed to care about that family and no one else, then kills them. If I could figure that out, I would like the movie a lot more!

Didn't they say he was in some 'experimental special forces' type faction? Some MK Ultra type shit where they fubar'd his mind. idk. Basically dude was savage crazy. OddRob had a good explanation above. Great film btw.

Loved the scene at the bar when he went bonkos on those punks.

I agree about the scene in the bar. I did just watch it a second time, and I believe he flipped because of the attack by the gov't. Also, I read in the trivia for the film that he was a full sociopath due to the experimentation by the military, so it makes more sense to me now. DVD (never converted up to BD) ordered yesterday!

Yep, agree.

Was a great film and loved the soundtrack too. Was comical at times and both the bar and restaurant scenes are my favourite.

The soundtrack is really good! Actually, I believe a full soundtrack can be found on youtube.

The soundtrack is one of the best parts of the film. Reminded me alot of Drive.

The music reminded me a lot of Drive too, which is probably why I liked it. It had an 80s vibe.
