The restaurant scene, but I also like the hospital one too, where they protect Vito.

The scene at the hospital in which Michael manages to foil the attempt to kill Vito.

I think the scene when Micheal and that hospital visitor who came with flowers are standing outside the hospital looking tough as the goons are driving around. The guy with flowers lights a cigarette and his hands are shaking and Micheal coolly lights it for him. You then realise he is made of sterner stuff.

The guy with the flowers shows a lot of courage in his own way. He's not a gangster. He's just a guy that has been helped out by the Godfather.

He's scared. Petrified. By all rights, he should run home to safety. But he sticks around and does the job.

There are so many great scenes in this film, making it hard to choose just one!

However, I think I'll go with the one where the guy finds his horse's head in his bed.

One scene that stands out is the one where the family is planning on what to do about the fact that their patriarch has been shot and that another assassination attempt is on its way.

Michael volunteers to shoot the Turk and the Irish cop. As this is happening, the camera slowly focuses on Michael. When the scene is done, he completely dominates the shot. He is no longer a Mr. Nice Guy. He gives the camera a hard stare. For all practical purposes, he has become the head of the family.

It's even more depressing, considering The Godfather series went downhill ever since.

I've never felt that the third part was that bad, except for Sofia Coppola. It's just that the original Godfather set the bar very high.

Thank you! I actually rewatched GF III a few months ago WITHOUT seeing the first two before it...its a Fantastic film!!! I sprung for the new edit BluRay "Godfather Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone", as I've heard great things..sadly, Sofia is still in it (lol), but heard the new edit flows the movie better, plus it was never meant to be a "III" (that alone hurts the film as it puts it an extremely high standard), but Copolla tacked on the III due to studio pressure.

I bought Coda a few weeks ago & will do a marathon (9 hours) of all 3 in the next week or so. I wasn't a huge fan of 3, gave it 6.5/10, while 1 & 2 rated a 10. But I have read that Coda is quite good.

I remember my parents taking me to see III in theaters and remember how BORING I thought it was....especially compared to the first 2, which were easier to understand. Of course, I was 15! Ffwd to the last decade, I have a newfound admiration for part III. I'm looking forward to Coda, but like you, I want to see 1 & 2 THEN Coda!

You haven't seen 1 & 2? I'm a bit embarrassed to say how many times I've seen the first two. I saw all of them when they were first released in theaters. I saw one about 5 or six times in the theater & around 50 or 60 times (probably more) in other ways. I have 1 & 2 in both VHS & DVD. But I wish Coppola would release 'The Godfather Saga' on DVD. It would be a perfect compliment to the 3 already released.

Maybe I miswrote...I HAVE seen 1 & 2...PLENTY of times..what I meant to convey was my last GF3 viewing I DIDN'T see 1 & 2 just before it (I tend to watch them as a trilogy...same with the original Star Wars and Back to the Future..lol). now that i have Coda, I want to rewatch 1 & 2 followed by Coda to see if it "fits" better in the narrative.

I thought maybe that was what you meant but I wasn't sure. I didn't want to assume.

I agree. Part III isn't as bad as the critical consensus would indicate. My main complaint is that so much depends on the growing romance between Andy Garcia and Sofia Coppola but I feel no chemistry between the two.

Michael's tragic story arc coming to an end is well done, though.

I just finally sat down and watched this movie, but it was the AMC version so I'm sure lots of stuff was left out. I can't believe it took me this long to watch it, I have always enjoyed the Casino/Goodfellas type movies, and the acting of Al Pacino. Some parts left me with questions though. Did they not film a funeral for Sonny? Why was Fredo such a mess-up? He couldn't even get his gun out without fumbling around when his father was shot. Although that sets up the Paulie murder, so okay. The cop Michael kills, he's actually pretty stupid. He's way too casual in the restaurant meeting. Although I guess that's part of his character, to be cool and not be messed with. Why is Kay so nosy? Just let it be! I can't believe Michael was not annoyed by that. The more I read other peoples comments the more my other questions got answered. I know these are probably silly, and I intend to watch it again, so forgive me if I'm being stupid! I just want to understand a little more and it seems like the TV version may jump around and leave a bunch of stuff out. But my favorite scene has to be the opening scene with the cat. That cat was so sweet! Must have been so appreciative to have been picked up and given attention, the way it's rolling around and grabbing for Brando's hands as if to say "Pet me!" Too cute.

Patty, I love cats. And that opening scene is great - the photography in it is just awesome. Somebody at IMDb wrote a review of the film comparing that photography to an artistic style, I think, but I can't remember the name of the style. The scene's just a perfect way to open a great film. And then, they bring back that man coming to Vito with his grievance later on - IIRC, to embalm Sonny - so there's an economy of characters at work there.

This film deserves all of its acclaim, in my opinion.
