Discuss Go West

Typically, when I rewatch a Marx Brothers movie, I fast forward over any song that doesn't involve one of the brothers.

I will watch "You Can't Argue With Love," though. I have seen her criticized online, but I enjoy June MacCloy's deep voice. The song isn't particularly sophisticated but it is reasonably catchy.

Technically, Groucho is a contributor. The song is interspersed with him gazing wistfully at the singer and carrying on a one sided conversation with Arthur Housman, who just has to sit there and "act" like he is drunk. He does a very convincing job of it. I've seen him play a drunk with Laurel and Hardy, The Three Stooges, and Mae West productions. What a job! He probably didn't even get yelled at if he showed up to work blitzed. Anyway, this scene with Groucho, Housman, and MacCloy isn't laugh out loud funny, but it is amusing and a pleasant way to pass the time.

I think I would like the song, though, even if Groucho wasn't around.
