While Henry Fonda was excellent in this thriller, I found Vera Miles' performance so far over the top to the point of distraction. Dreadful over-acting from an actress would could be quite effective when she avoided or toned down the histrionics (I like her quite a bit in Psycho and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance).
Glancing about the web, I note that her performance in The Wrong Man has quite a lot of admirers. Maybe I missed something - my memory is that she didn't ring true for a moment.

Having watched this recently, I agree with you to a point. I think in the first half of the film, she did alright. Not spectacular, mind you - but alright. It was in the second half, with her unexpected descent into madness, that her performance became less believable. She really didn't impress to me any extent, but I still enjoyed the film. Not usually a big Henry Fonda fan, but I liked him in this. And I'll watch practically anything Hitchcock.
