Discuss Coherence

Why would all these parallel worlds have a similar dinner party, if each character in each world will have slightly different (or not so slightly) life paths? Surely the likelihood of having such a dinner party on such a day, is highly dependent on a life long chain of specific events?

The answer is yes. BUT there are infinite worlds and only those worlds that by chance had gathered a dinner party would mass-hysterically produce behavior like those we witness forcing cross worlds activity.

In countless of other worlds we would just have the house owners sitting and sipping wine in darkness waiting for the power to come back. In other words, given infinity we are bound to see those and only those worlds in which they gather and raffle each other up like they did here..... and beside, we only see a handful of even those worlds.

PS: The mixing starts when the phone brakes in the very beginning in the car. The team we meat are all from different worlds from the very get go (or most of them). Evident in not remembering or misremembering each others backgrounds, as we learn through their small talks - like if the Buffy guy ever acted in Roswell or not.

My apologies if I am using this not as an actual Reply or Comment to OP. I have recently watched this movie 2x and have gathered a some thought on its mechanics, which I wanted to confront with others' opinions. Ideally I wanted to starte a new Discussion/ Thread, but cannot find the field (maybe I am new?).

Interpretation on the “Spinning dark roulette” mechanics

The roulette comprises the area between the house outdoor and the driveway. It is mentioned as darker than other areas. Whenever anyone enters that area, they will be subject to strong anomalies, characterized by one or several effects: distorted time span, dimensional crossing and/ or others I cannot define. Here’s what’s so trickey about it: people entering it do not perceive any of that, even if in a group. As an analogy, think of people walking on some sort of giant spinning vinyl record (you know, old times LP): those farther from the centre are covering a longer circular distance than those closer to it, which means that to “keep up”, those farthest are moving a little faster. Only, they do not realise it (just like when you move when walking on an escalator). Now, to make things far worse, instead of a flat vinyl, imagine that a complex sphere with several moving layers (like a spheric Rubik Cube). So, even though a group started with A, B, C and D leaving the house, every step they take deeper that area, the group members will be “replaced” in composition to A, B’, C’’ and -D (all from different group compositions suffering similar influences), so that when they finally leave this vortex, they will think that they are the same group that simply walked from a point X -> Y in an apparently linear path. In fact, the member farthest from this vortex centre (let us call him A) is stepping towards one version of the house, joined by member B’ from another group, coming from “behind” them, and so on, till we see 4 members that believe they just crossed a straight line on a street. This becomes evident when the group decides (too late) to make a “referential box” as marker of that specific house (which btw each member would have to memorise all contents to minimize risk of coincidence). When they confront a retuning Hugh, whom they assumed is their original just because he carried a blue light, that Hugh comes from a reality where he chose a different bandaid and whose random item was a stapler – while 4 other people mention completely different “random” items. This is why it is nearly impossible for anyone leaving the house to return to its original place (“dimension”): that vortex continues to grow exponentially in complexity, according to “decision variables” available – such as using different colour lights, use one (or more!) dice and write the results in a marker of same (or different!) colour, placing one (or more!) random objects in a box, writing down a favourite pet, etc... These are all possibilities that “feed” the growth of the vortex. In more so that during several instances new variable(s) are being added to the scenario, as people become more aware of what may be happening. I believe the “blackouts” occur whenever any group makes a new decision, which adds a new variable to the mix, resulting in the vortex exponential growth. So, unless people never leave the house and never talk about the Quantum Decoherence book, they will create that mindblowing nightmare, as multiple travelling versions of one’s self will continue to arrive (at different times and moods etc…) to houses that are already experiencing the maddening events of piling up versions of Hugh trying to leave the same note again and again. P.S. 1: The only “tracking method” that I can think of (but not form a solid opinion on), to make sure one recognizes a way to return to his original home, is the use of a rope, connecting each leaving member to said house. Maybe this rotating spherical vortex would create a mess of multiple knotted members from different dimensions/ timespans, maybe not, maybe cut it… In fact, we never see the travelling members ever making physical contact – holding hands etc…

Look at the left column, see the big blue button that says "New Discussion'? Click it & you can create a new thread.

Thanks - it was unavailable to me.

If there is any way to delete a post then I would delete my one above...

Yes, there is. Below the text box on the right is a little gear, click it & a drop-down has two options, edit or delete, click the one you want.

Cromm, i now know the reason for my stupid questions... I use "inverted contrast" due to my photphobia (background is black w white or grey letter) and that hides some fields - like the ones i asked about... thx!

You are welcome. Also, asking questions is NEVER stupid, that is how we learn & I can relate to the 'photophobia'.
