I realize T2 has higher production values (bigger budget, better effects and stunts etc.) but I still prefer this one. It's a much more intense movie to me.

T2 had the advantage of a much bigger budget, but both movies were equally entertaining.

It's like asking which of your children you love more...

It kinda is! Both films are amazing, but I still prefer the first for the atmosphere and pacing! Love the second, tho, so please don't think I don't!

I don't agree (about T1) but one's entitled to their own opinion.

T1 is someone's crazy cool idea of future wars where machines took over plus time travel made into a relatively cheap action movie - and nobody involved could guess or expect how this idea would inspire scifi and action fans. (And the real skynets of today) I mean nobody would give you a budget for this today, today a studio hands you 150 mil for something like Elysium...

In all fairness, the idea was hatched years earlier in both CYBORG 2087 and an old episode of of THE OUTER LIMITS.
Cameron simply beefed it up with some well staged action sequences.

The original Terminator movie is my favorite by far. The sequels have their place, but I like this one the best. The concept was new and there were no complicated time paradoxes to explain; the explanations in the sequels seemed to be a stretch.
Plus I like Arnold's T800 as a bad guy moreso than as a reprogrammed protector.
