Discuss Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Out of all the onscreen Batman, Batmen? Batmans? You know what I mean, which do you consider to be your favourite? Mine was Michael Keeton...until I watched Batman V Superman, and now, hands down, Ben Affleck's grumpy old bitter "sod the rules" bulked-up pure vigilante is number one in my eyes.

Nope. That award goes to The Lego Movie's depiction of The Caped Crusader

HAHAHAHAHA. Nice.

So I am only familiar with Adam West, Michael Keaton, and Christian Bale in the role. I liked all three, but Christian Bale is my favorite.

I remember all the hate, initially, when Ben Affleck was first cast in the role, although that is not the reason I never went to see him in any of the movies; it was just, for me, the storyline was nicely wrapped up with Bale's portrayal and I had no interest in continuing with additional stories.

HOWEVER, I am very excited for this new The Flash movie coming out soon; when I heard that TWO Batmen were going to be in it-- among them the great Michael Keaton! --I decided I had to see it.

So, I will soon be seeing Ben Affleck in the role, too. Though I expect Bale will remain my favorite, with Keaton a close second.

The Christian Bale Batman movies were ok. The second movie The Dark Knight was the best one in my opinion. That was a great movie!

I have to admit I was one of the people saying Ben Affleck couldn't pull it off, but boy was I wrong!

To be honest Batman V Superman is a one-off. I view that movie as a standalone. The Batman character in subsequent offerings is very diluted and nowhere near as interesting. The single-minded brute of a vigilante in that first movie is what makes him work so well, but they strip that away in the other movie. Shame.

I wasn't going to bother watching the new Flash movie, but after seeing what they've done with it I can't wait to see it! The Superwoman / Supergirl character has me very intrigued.

I've long resisted seeing the Batman vs. Superman movie, but you are one of many who has said it is good, so maybe I should give it a try.

Also, I likewise am looking forward to seeing the DC women in The Flash movie;) In particular, this will be my first time seeing Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, as I haven't seen any of her films as of yet.

I haven't seen Affleck's Batman but from all the others my fave is Michael Keaton. He sold the part on a dramatic as well as realistic level. You could actually believe an eccentric vigilante billionaire like him could exist. The other Batmans each have their own dramatic charm but to me there's no realism or fallible humanity like Keaton brought (for some reason the scene comes to mind where he spits out his "cold" soup before Alfred informs him it's Vichyssoise lol). Little touches like that made the part believable. As believable as a dude wearing armor and cruising the streets in flame throwing hotrods in search of crime, that is.

It's still Michael Keaton.

Knocked it out the park again in The Flash!

@JensenReid said: I also have a fondness for Michael Keaton's portrayal of Batman. He brought a unique blend of darkness, charisma, and a touch of humor to the character. However, I can understand why Ben Affleck's portrayal in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice resonated with you. His grizzled, more mature Batman, with a hardened and bitter outlook, added a different dimension to the character.

Exactly. That style of Batman really rings true with me and Ben Affleck's Batman nailed it. "Tell me. Do you bleed? You will." Killer line.

It seemed to me that Keaton just got a real kick out of playing the role and he just dove in and had a lot of fun with it. The man is an incredibly watchable. actor.

I wasn't going to bother with that movie, not a fan of the character to be honest, but after seeing the trailer and all the elements they've tossed in there it's a must-see. I don't get to the cinema these days but I'll definitely be grabbing Blu-ray on release day.

Have you seen Birdman? It's one of my fave Keaton flicks... The story is about an aging actor (Keaton) who was once famous for playing a campy superhero. Now, mostly irrelevant if not ridiculed, he embarks on writing/starring/directing a serious stage production about his life. Things do not go as planned.

Also.... he may actually have super powers.

I highly recommend it to all hardcore Keaton fans...but with a warning. It's not as silly or popcorn-entertaining as the plot may seem. It's sort of on the artsy side with some heavy drama in lieu of gags or flashy theatrics. The artsy gimmick is that the entire movie is shot in 1 "continuous take" (in quotes because it wasn't really done that way; it just looks like it with sneaky editing). So if you're a fan of the long take (Hitchcock's Rope, Orson Welles' Touch of Evil, Kubrick's work, or that film Russian Ark which was legit filmed in 1 continuous 2-hr shot) you'll love it even more.

Not really a Flash fan either - well certainly not from what I'd seen of Ezra before in that terrible Justice League film - but it was definitely worth seeing.

Maybe not up there with the very best comic book movies but certainly a notch above the more generic MCU efforts. Has an emotional ring which would certainly have had Mrs Midi-chlorian Count in tears, had she accompanied me, and Michael Keaton's involvement was brilliant - and thankfully more substantial then I thought it might have been.

I remember all the fuss when Birdman was first released but I didn't think it was my cup of tea at the time so I gave it a miss. But I've just looked the movie up and it's got a pretty stellar cast and holly shit did it make a profit at the box office! Gave the trailer a watch too and that thing has some punch to it, gave me goosebumps, which is always a good sign. Thanks for the suggestion, it's now on my to-buy list.

Ever since DC had announced that all these famous DC characters are going to appear in the movie, I had my worries. I really don't want the whole movie to be centered around the team, just centered around Batman and Superman. Similar to X-men: First Class, where they focused more on Charles and Eric rather than the entire team, but still gave the team the screen time that they deserve.
