Discuss Everything Goes Wrong

Item: The Madness of Youth

Language: en

Type of Problem: Incorrect_content

Extra Details: The translated title of this film has gone back and forth between "Everything Goes Wrong" and "The Madness of Youth," and now has been locked as the latter. I see no justification for this decision and would like arbitration or an explanation of the matter. The Criterion release of the movie and all the publicity involved has it as Everything Goes Wrong (which is a translation of the Japanese), most everyone who sees this movie in English will know it by that title, and searches for The Madness of Youth don't turn up nearly as many relevant hits (there is one poster image, so clearly it should be included as an alternate title).

I found where this issue was raised by a user in the forums and contributed my ideas there, where this conversation should probably continue (as opposed to here).

I second this opinion. The current title creates confusion and it is not even a translation of the original title. Furthermore across the web it can be found mainly as "Everything Goes Wrong" and not the other way around.

If the case is that the movie was originally made available in the west as "The Madness of Youth" then a more elegant solution would be to put this title in Alternative Title section and label it as such in the "Type" block. An example would be "Historical original translation" or something.

I agree as well. All searches are for EGW, even TCM broadcast it that way a few weeks ago.

Hi, I have fixed the title as first official release was Everything Goes Wrong. The Japanese sales title has no impact on the translated English title when there is an official release in a country with English as the main language. Closing topic.
