Discuss Hotel Rwanda

Could it be so that people don't start to think that the government's plan to ship off refugees to the country* might possibly be putting them in harm's way?

*Despite accepting refugees from there.

Nice conspiracy theory but I think that'd be giving the current government too much credit!

Possibly. Though they are quite keen on quietly stifling human rights. cf Anti-strike laws and the way most UK media outlets fail to report stuff coming out of Gaza that even Israeli news has.

On that subject, I also noticed that Tiger Zinda Hai, which has terrorists using a hospital as their base and nurses as human shields, got pulled in the UK when Israel accused Hamas of doing the same. The incident it was based on ended through negotiation, which obviously neither side seems keen on. Maybe TPTB don't want to encourage dialogue?

This is also the country that pulled a repeat showing of Madeline because it was due to be shown on an anniversary of MADELAINE McCann's disappearance.

I don’t know much about UK politics and even less about UK media distribution, but the more I learn about classic UK films the more I realize how much political meddling there has been with content and distribution. We Americans think we have a monopoly on censorship due to the infamous Hayes Code and the HUAC (House Un-American Committee), but UK has had its own Orwellian moments…

I was shocked to learn how much Churchill dirtied his hands over the Powell/Pressburger classic Colonel Blimp. And the gritty noir masterpiece Night and the City was edited with a happy ending (the American version preserved the original dark ending).

In UK’s current confused state over human rights with immigration & Gaza, I wouldn’t be surprised if the government were quietly pulling some media strings à la Churchill.

On the plus side, if there is a plus side, this will make for some interesting historical notes to film lovers 100 years from now. If there is a world 100 years from now.
