Great detective movie set on the streets of New York in 1948. It's like a time capsule of New York as the movie was filmed on it's streets and in it's apartments. They filmed real people and the real New York, no extras, no film stages., just the real crowds of New York City.
Watch out for the hairdressing salon, what an eye opener
This movie is a real treasure..

It's an impressive film. The location shooting - such a rarity in those days - is laudable and while the case which we follow is nothing new, the film is gripping with a fair amount of bite.
But oh boy, that narration. I lost count the number of times I rolled my eyes. Some of the lines are clinkers, and too many plot points are spelled out for us.
A very good film, but this fatal flaw holds it back from greatness, for me.

Yes I found the narration annoying too. Just a short monologue in the beginning would have been fine.

By the tenth time the narrator repeated, 'Ever see a guy who looks like this?' I was very close to throwing my coffee mug at the TV.
