Discuss Mean Streets

I really liked this movie a lot right up until the ending, or should I say lack there of. I was reading online on wiki and forums like did I miss something? apparently everyone thinks the ending was satisfactory. I have seen enough movies that have endings where you are supposed to infer what happens without it being spelled out. this wasn't really possible. it was still great but wish I had know before hand. that really was kind of insulting or I should say disappointing.

I thought it was self-explanatory. I've seen movies with conclusions that were much more open-ended than this one's. An assassin played by Scorsese makes an attempt on Johnny Boy's life, I believe, and shoots him. The car containing Johnny Boy, Charlie and Charlie's lady friend crashes, Charlie gets out of it, and falls to the ground, grief-stricken. I seem to recall Johnny Boy offending one of those gangster types earlier in the film, so I guess that the assassin was hired by mobsters.

I haven't seen the film in its entirety in a very long time, but I think that's how it goes -- not rocket science, at all.

I literally saw the ending and wasn't confused by it but I'm saying there's no resolve or even the ability to guess an epilogue. in that way it was unsatisfactory. if I asked you to guess what happens next there'd be no way to start at one.
