Did the Na'vi know from the start that the avatars were not true Na'vi, but human hybrids?

Havent seen the film in awhile, but from what I remember yes. I think its how they stated to learn the language and their ways.

I would have liked to have seen first contact between the two. Perhaps one of the sequels will actually be a prequel, or part of one.
