I don't think the sequels are ever going to happen. I don't think there is anything new to say about the world of Avatar. Cameron is more likely to die than personally helm another Avatar movie.
I don't think it will ever happen either. It's been 8 years and a lot of people have already lost interest. From what I read about Cameron is that he will directing a thriller about the oil industry called the informationist. He's also interested in doing a film about the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Maybe Cameron has exited? He might have lost interest in the series at this point. He keeps getting sidetracked. At some point I wouldn't be surprised if he hands off the series to another director.
The rights to Terminator don't revert to Cameron yet, but he's working with the current producers to set up the next film. According to Schwarzenegger, they're due to go in front of the cameras in March 2018.
The only thing Cameron needs to be focusing on now is releasing blu-rays of True Lies and The Abyss.
If he's going to make another film then it needs to be an R-rated sci-fi. Apparently he'll be producing these new Terminator films, not directing, which makes them pretty pointless - it's just a cash grab now that the rights have reverted to him.
Avatar was too 'soft', we don't need another 3 of them. He just needs to focus on making one decent, R-rated movie.
I'm very curious what will happen in the story ('cause I can't think of much they could do for so many sequels) and also how the visuals will look and have evolved since the original.
Still perplexed as to what the appeal of the first(and, Maker of Life willing, the only)installment in this franchise was exactly.
Im a little mixed with Avatar too. It is not nearly as great as his two terminator films, or Aliens. That is a fact I think most fans of Cameron would agree. If Cameron feels that Avatar 2 is something worth doing, then good for him.

Well he's gonna produce a live-action adaptation of the japanese comic book Battle Angel Alita and that should be nice and will be rated R thanks to John Wick, Deadpool and Logan's successes.

I'm interested in seeing what other worlds they explore. The visuals was what made that movie a hit. I hope the story gets better.

I am! The neon world and dragons vs. dropships make this film a favourite of mine.

All the scripts are done. Films to release in 2020s. Seems Cameron has a great story to tell if he needs 3 sequels back to back!

I thought Cameron was going to do another Terminator movie when the movie rights revert back to him.

He's doing both. He's set up for Avatar and will begin filming soon. The effects work at Weta began at the end of July.

I don't think many people will care about Avatar sequels. It is one of the most overrated movies in history and has aged terribly.

And do you think it's Cameron's worst film?
