Check out the Japanese originals for such details. By the way, a Google! search revealed that there are/were nine (9!) "Ju-On/JuOn" movies. On YouTube, the 2002 version (which starts with "Rika") looks like the one chosen to "remake with Western actors." Any answers to your questions are "spoilers" which would interfere with your enjoyment (?) of the superior 2002 Japanese "JuOn" movie.
