I get that Robert De Niro is/was a great actor and gave a great performance in Raging Bull but for me, John Hurt was robbed of a much deserved Oscar for his stunning performance in The Elephant Man. Not sure how long it would have taken to apply that make up every day but I'm guessing it wasn't a quick process. The sensitivity in which he plays John (Joseph) Merrick was his greatest ever performance in my opinion and the man was a true great and will be sadly missed.
