And it's a real shame that supporters of this movie have hijacked this website.

This movie is actually the most popular movie in India. To this day, Cinemas go house-full when this movie is run. However, I agree with you. It's annoyingly overrated, not even close to some of the true indian gems like Lagaan (2001), Guide (1965), Swades (2004) and obviously doesn't stand a chance against The Godfather and Shawshank lol.

Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge is the best Indian movie ever. Till today there are shows of DDLJ and people go to watch them with the same enthusiasm. I don't feel this movie is overrated. I love this movie a lot.

You guys are missing the point, apples and oranges have their own utility. You can not compare The Godfather or Shawshank Redemption with DDLJ. I don't say this is the best Indian movie but when you are comparing it with some other movie of different class and period you are actually missing the point and sounding naive.

DDLJ has a cult following, how can you undermine it by comparing it with some movies which a lot of the fans of DDLJ might not have seen and may not like. Either you have to watch more movies similar to this or stop comparing unrelated cinema.
