I'm thinking this movie's Laura portrait http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xKTjXem-doU/UKZi6wypYUI/AAAAAAAAADQ/2o1BmAEqh9M/s1600/laura.jpg is probably the second-most famous in films, only surpassed in extent of fame by the main (the handsome un-aged) one in The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945).
Can anyone think of any more famous movie portraits than the two mentioned?
From Wikipedia, some interesting trivia about the Laura portrait:
Preminger...replaced the [original] portrait of Laura – a crucial element of the film...with an enlarged photograph (taken by Fox photographer Frank Polony) of Tierney, lightly dabbed with oils to give it the ethereal effect he wanted.

Just watched this film for perhaps the fifteenth time, in my top 20 of all-time favorite movies. One famous movie portrait that I can think of is the portrait of Rebecca in the movie of the same name. Judith Anderson was in that, as well as the film Laura. The host of TMC today stated that Laura was first directed by Rouben Mamoulian and then replaced by Otto Preminger. I'm sure that struck terror into the hearts of the cast. He was known to make grown men cry.

Portrait of Jenny is an incredible film. The dream-like ambience, the gorgeous photography, and Jennifer Jones!
There’s also Girl with a Pearl Earring, which has exceptional photography too!

In the Hitchcock film "Rebecca", there's a large portrait of Joan Fontaine as the character Caroline de Winter in the hall of the estate.
There's also an hour long documentary called "The Mystery of Picasso" from around 1959 which by use of a special screen, you can watch Picasso work on and finish a painting.

Right. I mis-spoke when I said there was a portrait of Rebecca hanging in Manderley. It was a portrait of one of Max de Winter's ancestors. There's more to it than that, but some of it I've forgotten and some of it would entail spoilers.

Vertigo gives significant screen time to a portrait in the art gallery. I wonder how high this film will place on the upcoming Sight and Sound survey?
