Discusión Shakespeare enamorado

…contain yourself. It may well have been the topic that closed down the imdb discussion boards. Tens of thousands of mostly Saving Private Ryan fans with almost identical complaints swamped the old imdb SiL board. What a waste of bandwidth.

Here's a clean slate.

This film was intelligent, articulate, literate and witty. It was brilliantly acted, directed and shot in a convincing recreation of Tudor London—the first. Furthermore it directly linked Shakespeare with the modern business of show, depicting Tudor impresarios, writer and actors with exactly the same problems suffered by their modern equivalents in Hollywood. A direct link between the summit of art and culture and the people who vote for the awards.

There are dozens of films like Saving Private Ryan. Many would argue it was not even the best, or second best war film of 1998 with the honour going to The Thin Red Line or Life is Beautiful.

But you won't find another film like Shakespeare in Love. It's still a one-off. So if you're feeling aggrieved (after 19 years) find the SPR board and make your feelings known there.

Well, I'm not slagging this film off, nor am I a fan of SPR (too gruesome for my liking), but I don't think it's up to you what people do

The Oscars are fkn garbage. Too much Hollywood politics involved. A statuette can mean a huge financial windfall and thus skews the results. Not to say that sometimes the actual best picture just happens to fall in line with the political result because it does happen. But hardly ever does the best get chosen as the best purely because it was indeed (or he or she) the best that year. This only happens in the top categories mind you. Best picture, director, actor, actress (do away with actress now that woman are equal?) and supporting. The further from the top you get in the awards the least amount of politics are involved. For example, I doubt there is a lot of politics involved in the best sound editing award, etc.

Case in point. Denzel Washington gets passed up in the 1993 AA for the lead in Malcolm X but then gets it for Training Day? Just what in dee hell?

Ellen Burnstyn in Requiem for a Dream gets passed up for Julia Roberts in Erin Brockovich? Gimme a fkn break. Anyone who knows anything about acting can clearly see who did the better acting in their perspective roles. The Denzel win in Training Day was when Hollywood got a bug up it's ass to recognize black actors ( a bit late eh?) and thought it would be cute to have two black actors win both best actor and actress same year. They gave it to Halle Berry for that godawful role and movie Monster's Ball.

These are just some of the incidents I have witnessed of the Oscars just being completely full of shit. I've lost faith in them a long time ago. Golden Globes seem to be a bit more honest ( alot less at stake).

Life is Beautiful

Does this count as a war movie? Never either SPR or SIL and have no intention on doing so

Life is Beautiful is NOT a war movie. The movie takes place during a war but that doesn't make it a war movie.
