I concur - and don't forget the greatest cinematography as well...
I think the difference is that this is a beautifully shot film full stop, which just happens to feature a superhero. It's not just another entry off the current production line of the "comic book movies" which leaves them all feeling completely generic...
Why do we argue opinions? Williams is a master of cinematic earwigs. You literally cannot help but hum his scores for hours or even days after hearing them. Superman was a genre-defining score so iconic that it was reused decades later when Singer updated the franchise.
In terms of popularity, and the score that will be referenced first when his obituaries are written, Star Wars will probably lead the pack. I'd personally put Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jaws, and Jurassic Park ahead of Superman but there is no wrong answer.
For me, the better debate has always been between John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith.
As someone else alluded to in the thread, it's stupid to argue opinions. In my OPINION, X-Men: First Class, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Captain America: Civil War are all better than that film. I'm just offering this up.

Ill give you Winter Soldier. But while X-men First Class and Civil War were good. They were somewhat of a mess. Bottom line without Superman the Movie. There wouldn't be any Superhero movies today. It lead the groundwork for everything that would come after it. Even Christopher Nolan said so when he made Batman Begins. And while it might not be the best. Hes sure as hell up there. And Nobody in the last 40 years has came close to being as good at playing Superman as Christopher Reeve.

The first two are up there for me as well, along with the Keaton Batmans.
Tough choice! Both have done so many iconic themes, no doubt the greatest in their field.

I haven't seen it but The Black Panther won an Oscar for Best Picture and Superman was not even nominated. True?
