So - what was the point of Spock looking at an ancient picture of the original Star Trek cast. ? I mean if we are looking at the old Jim Kirk and his crew how can the present characters be them? I found this completely confusing.

When Spock went through the black hole it created an alternate universe in Star Trek (2009) His universe was with the old Star Trek team. Remember when Spock and Kirk were in the cave on the planet Kirk was banished to. Kirk asked Spock if he knew his father. He said yes and that his father was very proud of him.

I don't know but maybe it's just possible they have mobile / memory storage devices in the Star Trek future 🤔

Spock Prime drove through a trans-dimensional warp. His extraneous personal effects were left at home.

I remember reading that they were going to go with the Arnie (tm) model of time-travel but the censors refused to certify a wrinkly old 70-something Leonard Nimoy's (RIP) naked body, in all its glory, for a family rating 😉
