Can someone please explain how it ended? TCM doesn't usually screw up when they give their listing to the listings services, but this one stopped just near the end when they were dancing. I sense I lost the last three minutes or so. Thanks for any help you can offer.

This movie's title causes confusion because TMDb uses the original title, even though everyone else calls it Vacation from Marriage. Even the movie poster they use here says Vacation from Marriage. I guess that's one of the drawbacks to slavishly using original title, even though no one knows it by that name.

I love the classics so may need to check this one out. Does TCM have an OnDemand feature if they do perhaps you can watch the ending that way?

They have a Watch TCM feature online, but I haven't been able to find this one there.

I owned a Warner Archive DVD (fully identical to what TCM airs) of this till donating it to the local public library 3-4 years ago. By now I'd forgotten precisely how the movie ends, so just now did some exploring through IMDb reviews and found the following that mention the ending:

"[After the couple has departed the pub and eventually gone their separate ways following a quarrel] Robert...stalks around the bombed out streets and thinks about Catherine. He decides to return to get his things, as quietly as possible, from the flat. When he enters, he doesn't at first notice that Catherine, who couldn't sleep herself, is sitting in the window. Bombs had destroyed the (claustrophobic) wall outside their flat to fall such that they now have 'a room with a view' of the devastated city. They talk of (London's) rebuilding, which becomes a double entendre discussion of their own marriage ... which they agree to try, kissing in the final frames." (as posted by Jacobs Greenwood on 11 December 2016)

From a different IMDb review:

"It ends happily with an embrace in front of the window of their flat, overlooking a blitzed London overhung with barrage balloons, a fresh new morning." (as posted by Robert J. Maxwell on 12 March 2009)

Where the movie's recording cut off for you, had they yet quarreled outside (their friends nearby) by that point? If so, that's a scene that shortly precedes the eventual return to the apartment.

genplant29, thanks for the info. I actually finally found the movie on Watch TCM online yesterday and watched the ending. They had actually been off by about 20 minutes in my TiVo listings guide, so a few minutes of padding wouldn't have helped. It cut off during the bar/dancing scene, before they went outside and had the argument and split up. This has happened to me only once before, and I yelled at TCM about it the first time it happened. Usually there is so much padding at the end of their films that no extra padding is needed in TiVo settings, but it probably resulted from a simple typo from either TCM or the listings service (Rovi, which now owns TiVo, and is inferior to the previous listings provider--Tribune Media Services/Gracenote). Now that TCM has the online Watch TCM option, this will no longer be a disastrous problem.

I'm such a fan of TCM that I make myself get that service tier just for TCM. I wish the FCC would finally mandate a la carte options, but that may not happen anytime soon. But I manage to save a lot of money by replacing the Comcast cable boxes w/my TiVo Bolt and Premier boxes w/cheap multi stream cable cards ($1.50 per month each) and lifetime service (no monthly TiVo subscription fees) and my own 4-port Wi-Fi router/modem. So I save enough in monthly cable fees to more than cover the cost of the higher tier of service.

I most years (including this one) downgrade my Comcast on or shortly after November 1st as I live in a US East Coast Midatlantic area that Comcast offers a special coastal seasonal rate to, Nov. 1 through March 31, if you know to ask for it (and if you're willing to, meanwhile, lose your extra channels). The monthly rate then becomes significantly reduced. You have to be on any level higher than Limited Basic at the time of starting on the coastal seasonal plan, but are downgraded, channels-wise, to solely Limited Basic channels during the 11/1 through 3/31 period.
