Discuss Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

So at the moment there is no real buzz about this movie despite being Star Wars. Tons of crazy theories including time travel. Galaxy's Edge theme park is tanking. The toys are tanking because kids aren't interested in these awful new characters. Rumors that George gets a 25% kickback for original trilogy content which would explain why Disney has gone out of its way to ruin the old characters. I'm sure it'll still make money, just not as much as the first two.

So how much do you think this is going to suck? They're going to photoshop Leia in to it, Finn's probably still going to be a coward lusting after a woman who's more interested in an evil murderer, Poe will attempt to be witty and tell a joke in a tense situation, the Emperor is in there doing something, all of Lando's scenes will probably shot with him sitting down because even he can't be bothered to put in any effort for this, Hux will get a Force wedgie, they probably have to stop another planet killing weapon, there will be some kind of anti-Trump reference, Rey will turn out to be Space-Jesus.

What am I missing?

It still will be considered a flop and a failure considering the budget for the movie a similar amount for promotion and they money invested in making the toys nobody is buying.TROS is a massive and financial failure for Disney.People at Disney and Lucasfilm let their egos prevalate over the importance in making a number of good movies that could have made them shitloads of money. They manage to fuck up something which wasn't so hard to be made successful the will and the enthusiasm was there with the fans but Disney managed to fuck that up as well.Star Wars is now in a worse state than Lucas left it after the Prequel Trilogy and that is saying something.

Disney made over 40% of all box office last year, they'll survive the "flop" of episode 9.

I didn't say Disney was going bankrupt they still have the highly profitable Marvel Universe(Unless they manage to screw up their phase IV movies with their woke messaging which currently is a bit of a worry considering the rumours that are coming from insiders) But so far Star Wars has not been the goose with the golden eggs they hoped it would be considering the money they spend on acquiring it the production budgets of five movies and promotion budgets.

Let's make a calculation shall we? 4.1 billion to buy it roughly 1.5 billion to make 5 movies(roughly estimated) and a promotion budget of 1.5 billion that makes 7.1 billion.

Now look at the earnings worldwide gross TFA 2.06* billion, RO 1.06* billion,TLJ 1.3* billion,Solo 392* million,TROS 953* million. is a total of roughly 5.8 *billion (*world wide gross means that Disney is not getting all that money entirely because all the overseas revenues are shared with the various overseas cinema distributors so let's say 50-75% of that income is for Disney.)So let's say Disney made roughly 5.1 billion on 5 Star Wars movies That still is a loss of 2.0 billion on Star Wars.(That is if we calculate roughly half the earnings come from overseas and that Disney gets 75% of that revenue which still is a very optimistic projection I might add because often most of the revenue comes from overseas revenues and Disney probably gets less than 75%)

A $2 billion loss (according to you) at this moment in time that ignores all other revenues.

I think they made a wise acquisition and the financial future of Star Wars looks rosy.

Well I have checked IMDB for their gross income and these figures have always proven to be reliable the IMDB show total US domestic earnings and Worldwide earnings what other revenues? The toys?Nobody is buying those in most toy stores Star Wars nowadays has only a small section and the toys are sold at discount prices collecting dust children nowadays are more likely to buy something from the Frozen merchandise than Star Wars because they are not interested and the grown up fans don't buy the toys out of principle after what Disney and their shills said about them in the media. As for the theme parcs those aren't really a success either and considering the money they spend on that if we would add that to our calculation losses for Disney would be even bigger. And we then didn't even take into account the money Disney had to pay Lucas for the use of his IP as creator and taxes. So my guess if you took everything into account Disney probably lost somewhere between 2.5 to 3.0 billion on Star Wars.

And lets not forget that Disney also 'cooked the books' to mislead investors into thinking they are actually doing better than they really are. That shit got swept under the rug pretty quick. But even with all that and SW failing currently I really dont think anything can take the mouse house down. They are just to powerful.

That is true but Disney is still under investigation so chances are that if they are found to be guilty they can probably expect hefty claims from former FOX shareholders.

Nexus said it pretty well already, but my god, they spent $4.1 billion on a money printing franchise and nearly every release has gone downhill after TFA. Solo lost money and TROS is under-performing and in my opinion is only doing as well as it is in North America because its theater count is still 4k+ after a month of release.

The people in charge of SW have basically run it into the ground in just 4 years. Imagine if they had planned out the trilogy so that it all tied together and made sense, they would be swimming in profit. Even if it was just okay, all they had to do was not piss on the OT characters and people would have been happy with it as evidenced by how often Rogue One is cited as the best of the Disney movies because instead of pooping on the OT it actually tried to expand and add on to the OT and didn't get overly political.

If they announce Jon Favreau will be in charge of future movies and KK is leaving I would consider paying to see a new SW.

Even if it doesn't bankrupt Disney 2 billion is an insane amount of money That amount can buy NASA an Apollo lunar landing adjusted by today's money (in the 60's and 70's it cost round a 0.5 billion per Apollo flight)
