My guess is he does a fairly big time jump so Leia dying of natural causes can be written in (I predict it will open with her funeral). Rey will be training force sensitive kids to be Jedi (she has the books now).
JJ can do it, especially if he has some decent co-writers helping.
Rian Johnson should never be allowed within 100 yards of a Star Wars set. I hope this movie flops and they pull his deal.
Does anyone realise that Empire Strikes Back had a mixed critical response upon initial release? Maybe TLJ will be more appreciated when we get the complete story after Episode 9 in 2019. Lets have a little calm 'fans'.
I think Weedinator is upset because so many people are trashing a movie he loved.
No, you 'think' that because you are yet another clueless simpleton making idiotic assumptions based on nothing but that lonesome wind whistling through your empty head. Keep up the great work!
hahahahahahahahahaha
This year in your school, were you mercilessly taunted for liking DC movies? If so, I understand your intense need to level personal insults toward people who have a different opinion than you. Your English teacher said you have promise and you try to be eloquent but some people recognize that you have copied insults word for word from old IMDB boards. Those are the enemies that you tear up over and seethe over as you try to get some sleep. I get it. You have so much rage built up from feeling held down by people that you must lash out. It is the only way you feel like you have any power over anything. But hey, at least you can watch your Batman vs Superman and TLJ over and over. Those masterpieces will surely soothe you before you spot someone with a different opinion making you feel inferior all over again. What fancy invective will you cook up for them?

What's this? Even more desperate and idiotic assumptions based on nothing? Do you like exposing yourself as a moron? Huh? hahahahahaha

With luck you may be right but this whole reboot feels extremely ad-hoc and unplanned, as if nobody had the foresight to plan ahead. Johnson erased much of what JJ had set up, whereas Lucas--though he too really played it by ear--did a pretty good job of maintaining continuity and answering any questions he posed.
We'll see, but I don't think much of Abrams. He tends to mimic other filmmakers and usually plays it safe at all times.

Maybe within trilogies but not between them - Obi-Wan's "your father was already a great pilot ... I was amazed at how strongly the force was with him ... I took it upon myself to train him" and Leia's memories of her real mother never really tied up with what was presented in the PT.
But yes, as you say, what they have done with this particular film, which is really amazing, is to pretty much blow off the continuity of the previous film within the same trilogy! Liberating stuff from Rian Johnson...

Yep. I can't say Lucas was a pro at continuity either. Obi Wan- *I don't remember having any droids" "Midichlorians" Yoda "Old friend Chewbaca" Leia remembering her mother etc
Empire might have had mixrd critical response but TLJ has fairly high praise from critics and mixed audience response. I don't think time will help that much. A little but not much.
JJ Abrams caused most of this mess with his shoddy fanfic TFA script, which did nothing but rehashing and thereby undoing OT character arcs and achievement. Not just Han but Luke too, who failed to prevent the destruction of the Jedi order by a seduced Skywalker again, and instead of cleaning up his mess hides and pouts on an island refusing to do anything against the second empire to rise and kill billions.
Apart from this JJ stated early how great this script was and he was a TLJ producer. I find it only just that he has to explain all his empty mystery boxes for once to the audience, unlike with Lost & Co.

All great points. I don't know what anyone expecting here after seeing TFA. Did we expect to see Luke being hopeful on that island by himself? JJ had him go to that island for a reason, it was clear in the first movie he was on that island because he gave up. I mean, what other explanation can there be? Him and Leia already have a force connection, so how come she didn't contact him telepathically? The only explanation is that he cut himself off from the force.

Complete story after Episode 9? WTF, are you high or something? Had they made competent movies that resolve 95% of its own setups instead of the sequel baits that we got I and I'm sure many others would be much more happy with ST movies.
Bob Iger, Ceo of Disney, and Kathleen Kennedy, CEO of Lucasfilm, should have locked the three screenplays (for each episode) before filming ep 7. If they had, for example, 80 percent of the new trilogy's storyline locked in place, complete, in 2014 then they would have had a strong idea/vision where to take the franchise. Rian Johnson wouldn't be able to rewrite ep 8 - he'd just direct it.
Personally, I'd like some of the Star Wars Rebels writers have a go at a SW movie screenplay. They have the experience. Did Rian Johnson have any Star Wars writing experience prior to getting the job? I think not!

The way they treated Han Solo was even worse than Luke Skywalker.
Han Solo must be still alive!
