My guess is he does a fairly big time jump so Leia dying of natural causes can be written in (I predict it will open with her funeral). Rey will be training force sensitive kids to be Jedi (she has the books now).
JJ can do it, especially if he has some decent co-writers helping.
Rian Johnson should never be allowed within 100 yards of a Star Wars set. I hope this movie flops and they pull his deal.
Unfortunately there is no way this will flop way too much marketing for that to happen, but agree this clown should be banned from the Star Wars franchise!
Yeah, um, he can get yanked man. They've yanked directors before when things didn't work out. Remember the 2 guys they yanked from the Solo film and replaced with Ron Howard? AFTER principal photography was finished. Remember Trevarrow directing IX? Johnson can get yanked too and I hope he does. This is getting very bad word of mouth by audience and will not make anywhere near the bank of TFA.

Lord & Miller were reportedly fired from the Han Solo movie "after months of conflict with producer Kathleen Kennedy, others from her LucasFilm team, and co-writer and executive producer Lawrence Kasdan." Collin Trevorrow was reportedly fired for being difficult to work with and developing an oversized ego after the success of Jurassic World.
Rian Johnson was given reins to a brand new Star Wars trilogy after The Last Jedi was finished with production. This is what Kennedy had to say about the deal:
“We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”
He could be fired, but unless his attitude and work ethics change, that is highly unlikely... especially after the praise he's received from LucasFilm executives and the financial success of The Last Jedi.
What!? It was JJ that created this mess in the first place! I almost feel sorry for RJ. He was handed a story that had more questions than a game of Trivial Pursuit thanks to JJ's 'Mystery Box' technique.
There was little to no hope for anyone attempting to try and bring some kind of plausible or satisfying conclusions to this new 'Disney Star Wars' trilogy after TFA and with JJ back in the directors chair for IX I'd wager this isn't going to end well.

I got a question. Dose Kathleen Kennedy even like Star Wars or is it just a Job to her. Frankly you need someone who has a passion for Star Wars. Just like Kevin Feige has for Marvel. Also i think the last we need after this is another trilogy. If you can't have a single movie in your trilogy have a coherent plot. Then you have no business making a second Trilogy..
I'd actually argue that unless the format of the movie has already been designed by Kathleen Kennedy and Kasdan--a distinct possibility--Abrams has the easiest job. He can look at the feedback from TFA and TLJ and provide perhaps the ultimate fan service film. It's what he does and it's precisely why they hired him.

Okay fine, he's a team player and all around nice guy. Fine. I think he could be a competent director. I just think he has bad ideas about Star Wars, and honestly, I don't care if he supposedly wrote the "best Breaking Bad episode ever!!" that still doesn't translate to Star Wars. They're completely different genres. If he directs more films. I strongly believe he should not write them.
The movie is already having articles written about it on major news sites about how much audience hate it's getting, this is NOT some fringe topic, and I strongly suspect this will have a major negative effect on the movie's legs. Time will tell I guess.
Yall are high. This is not a Rian Johnson film franchise. JJ is a producer on this movie, read and approved of the script, as did Lucasfilm - OBVIOUSLY. It's their film. They know what they want and don't want to do in THEIR movies. You think Rian had carte blanche? Since you're 12, that means complete freedom. You think he could've killed Rey if he wanted to? You all are bitching because YOU decided to spend 2 years listening to Collider Jedi Council BS theories and their hype machine and YOUR theory was incorrect?

It won't make as much as TFA, it was never expected to.
The rest of the sentence is simply incorrect.

I'll see your anonymous RT audience reviews and raise you a Cinemascore rating of A by actual people that watched it.

So, uh those 797 pages of reviews on RT are "fake people." Uh huh. I guess Russia had something to do with this.

A site that allows you to create multiple accounts to review and rate a movie you most likely haven't seen is a teeny weeny bit suspect IMHO.
