Discuss Star Wars: The Last Jedi

the film started out with a 5 minute long "can you hear me now" joke on the bridge of a first order ship. Classic material.

The movie did try a bit hard to go for the Marvel humour, which could be a bit annoying.

Dont forget the clothing iron they made look like a space ship for 2 seconds.

To be honest the ship that Zod was using in Man of Steel resembled an old clothes pin

lol I missed that

Yeah, that actually made me wonder if I was actually sitting in a Star Wars movie or if Disney decided to make a Spaceballs sequel instead, but then I thought about it and came to the conclusion that Mel Brooks would never do something so lame. Thankfully the humor doesn't kill the whole movie.

I'm trying to go for an engaging, funny youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see and if you have any thoughts or criticisms, i'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance. A review of the movie here- https://youtu.be/nerCnafPUm8

Well they should have went to ludicrous speed.

I too caught that--before the reveal--and while it was well timed (in other words, just about the time I leaned over to tell my seat-mate it looked like an iron...there it was confirmed to BE an iron), the lasting impression of using such "humor" felt shallow. Star Wars has never been "self-aware" in this way, and I don't think inserting such things will age well at all.

I agree that it didn't ruin the film, but it's low-brow self-satisfying humor that seems way out of place.

I liked the extra little humor in this one... I think it is better character development, and makes them more human... Kind of a little Star Trek-esque...

I agree, the iron and the Hux "can you hear me now" bit seemed straight out of Spaceballs and I think will not hold up well. Now, everytime I see this this movie (if I do again), I'm going to say "yep, I just spent 5 seconds watching an iron land I knew was an iron, again". Star Wars has always had silly humor (most egregiously in the prequels), and maybe I'm wrong, but I don't remember any self-parodying humor before now. Maybe TFA wasn't the best movie, but the humor aspect was SPOT ON and never fell flat.

The truly humorous thing here is watching all you Space Nerds getting all snotty and turning your noses up at a Star Wars movie in the first place... heh

Well, I'm personally comforted knowing that amusing "Weedinator" was at least one good thing that came out of this movie.

Don't you mean it's the ONLY good thing about this movie? You know, because it's sooooo terrible and didn't meet your superior high-brow standards? Because it isn't essentially a kids' show?
