QUITE FRANKLY THEYRE ALL A LITTLE CRINGEY NOW.THE MODERN ONES ARE STUNT SPECTACULARS,OTHER THAN THAT THE WHOLE SERIES IS TOM CRUISE DOING WHAT TOM CRUISE DOES.
In my movie ROI database (over 2500 titles from 1924 to 2022), the average ROI is $3.71 in box office revenue for each budget dollar. Mission: Impossible has been a decently profitable franchise, paying an average of $4.31 in box office revenue for each budget dollar, broken down by installment as follows:
Do note that the first installment paid the highest ROI even though it did not do the best box office. Profitability is as much (if not more) about budget control as it is about revenue.
While Tom Cruise is enjoying somewhat of a renaissance, the challenge of maintaining this profit performance going forward with the up-coming two-parter is that budgets are likely to be in the $200M range which would require $800M in box office for both movies to stay north of $4.00

Close. I think it's the best of the sequels. But it still doesn't beat De Palma's well crafted tension.

Not as good as Ghost Protocol, in my opinion. Probably a little better than the others, though....

@Jan El Señor: Well, it is hard to top blowing up the Kremlin and climbing up the outside of the tallest building building in the world.

I enjoyed it so much that I watched it 3 times. I think it is the best one of the series.

I'm another who preferred Ghost Protocol.
Not that there's anything wrong with this (except for Simon Pegg having too much of a bigger role).
While the others are good, the only poor one for me is MI:2. Watching it now makes it look so...dated.

True, i don't like MI2 but the motorcycle chase at the end is 👌

MI2 gets a worse rep than it deserves. It's not up to much story wise but that motorbike chase blew my mind in the cinema.

@cpheonix: I didn't like MI2 either. I tried to watch it, but I gave up after the rock climbing scene.

Can anyone on the board convince me why I should give Mission Impossible 2 another chance?

I'll just chip in with some profit numbers.

@JustinJackFlash: I'm familiar with John Woo's work (and his penchant for having LOTS of doves in his movies, for some nutty reason).

@DRDMovieMusings : When do you see Tom Cruise stepping aside from being in the Mission Impossible movies?
