Chicks in the 23rd century dig boats

He was getting too portly for space by that stage - needed the buoyancy water provided!

You don't even need buoyancy in space.

C'mon. And more than 100 years later Picard went rally driving in a futuristic Polaris. It's not hard to imagine someone in the future wanting to simplify, put down roots, and hang out on a nice lake now and then.

Only because his annoying neighbour had a boat named Excelsior, which he boasted about.

I'll bet Scotty named his boat Enterprise and sailed rings around his neighbour

As I re-read this I thought, "But in space there IS no gravity!" Which led me to think of the DS:9 episode Melora. Thought of tubby Scotty bouncing around the walls of a DS:9 suite while sipping scotch makes me smile.
